Can you explain why? There is a lot of mythery about identity theft, secrecy and so on. At its silliest, it leads to people blanking out car number plates and having a strop because someone knows their address.

Because if paypal see a lot of low value payments, all in a flurry, and think you may be breaching their terms and conditions, they may google your paypal details, find this thread, read this thread and then freeze your paypal account while they investigate a possible breach of their terms and conditions of use. They may also apply for a freeze on all accounts linked to your paypal account. Bank, credit card etc. Then you may miss your rent, sundry other direct debits and have to write a groveling letter of apology to paypal promising not to breach their terms and conditions again before the investigation is complete and normal service is resumed.

Ill take this post down tomorrow. All please be aware of the possible dangers of posting payment info on an open forum.

Also be aware of the dangers of excessive paranoia.  If you think that paypal can freeze a bank account, you are mistaken.  Only a Court can do that, and applying for an order to freeze someone's bank account is a major undertaking and requires very good grounds.

By the way, if you google my email address, you get my business website, because it's on there. It's not a secret thing.

Perhaps you were poorly advised.  I prefer to rely on thirty years experience of practising law than on your statistical sample of one.  Large companies sometimes imagine that they are above the law, but they're not.

I really dont know the mechanics, but money stopped coming out of atms and direct debits wernt fulfilled. My bank (also my credit card provider) said they were investigating possible fraud in relation to my account. Just after my paypal contacted me about a breach of their ts&cs. It was all sorted out in the end and I suppose it could all have been a big coincidence, but it shit me up well enough.

I am sorry to hear of your experiences.  Next time ask me for some free advice.  You get less fucked about with if you know the rules, or know someone who does.

Unfortunately the period between their acting according to their imagined far-reaching powers and receiving proper advice can inconvenience the average punter, such as the erstwhile Mr Peas.

I'd much rather rely on your advice, as evidenced by my participation in this roffle. 'Buy a chance to own my car', he said. So I did.

I am pretty sure that I once saw the words "stubborn understains" here, but that may have been on a Cavcraft car valeting thread.

Sorry, often people send a PM when the roffle was completed with the details - as not always everyone is still following the thread.

Just checking, but I think that all payists have paid, and all those with freebies have freebed.

So, roffle draw tomorrow.

It's not such a bad looking thing:-
