So I, as some of you are aware by now, have a penchant for Frontera A models. If you don't - shame on you, this place etc.

I have one of Vauxhalls finest rebadged Isuzu 4x4 - assembled in Luton with a Turbo-charged Opel (CF-type) diesel...

As usual lack of regular oil changes has led to this -

So I located one of these. From a friendly Opel dealer. For a lot.

What's that 2.3 diesel like? I've heard they're fairly terrible but I like rubbish old diesels.

I love them - glacier-like would describe them to most people but a well (properly!) set up one is a decent drive. Lots of horror stories but all those CF owners can't be wrong. Oh, wait....

Slog on all day. Very understressed in standard-ish trim. Just watch oil pump wear if servicing is neglected....:-D

Slacken 6 hex screws and remove  - remember to miss oil drainer and watch  (with slight horror/air of resignation) oil make it's way inexorably up (down) your arm....

Both driver and driven gears will slide down their respective oily shafts as you remove end cover.

Yay.

Splined/toothed shaft is driven via injection pump/crank gear. There is some wear but even I draw the line.

Sometimes.

No oily armpit for me today. A little part of me was disappointed...

Some light cleaning of housing before cover/leaking oil prv attended to - not that I didn't resealed it properly before. Honest. :-)

Then on to cover - gently held in vice for old gasket removal, prv remove and reseal.

Yes, it's a long spring that really doesn't want to be compressed whilst attempting to refit retainer with oily hands. At all.

Apply a constant pressure with twisting action and swearage. Retrieve spring. Repeat.

Insert picture of perfectly formed Vx grey sealer gasket here. Whoops.

Refit cover while holding new /old pump gears in place without disturbing 'gasket'.

Refit all six hex screws without dropping any on your head/in drainer or watching them roll away.

Torque (wiv and actual tool an' everyfin') and wait appropriate amount of time (12 hours) before starting. Or 45 min because I need to load workshop.

Check for leaks and oil pressure - none yet and some. :-)

Upcoming -

Check oil pressure after sustained high-speed run (hahhahahahhahah - 'high')

Check for leaks on Monday after minor Torrey Canyon on drive

Replace turbo with another one (about 2ish mm radial play!)

Wonder if odd clicking noise is vicious fan coupling about to seize/explode.

Repair drivers seat base webbing.

:-D
