theorganist
Hello, The Maestro diesel which I was attempting to sell has a blown head gasket. It is not leaking coolant it is leaking into the coolant and so causing pressure in the system. It would explain why I wasn't getting warm air from the heater. My garage whom I trust but are quite expensive have quoted £400 to £500 does this sound about right as someone else I know whose brother works in the motor trade reckons it should be half that? I may just stick it on ebay and see what I get for it.
Sigmund Fraud
I suppose the repair cost will depend on what the actual fault is... Is the gasket falling apart due to old age and lack of use ? Is the head corroded ? Is the head cracked ? Nobody can tell until the head comes off !
sierraman
Given you could probably get another engine for £150, yes it is expensive. Dick Longbridge, saucedoctor and Sigmund Fraud
panhard65
The price sounds about right for a proper vat registered garage. I am sure there are no end of eastern european types who will do it cheaper for cash, but will disappear if you ever have a problem. I would probably ebay it as you never know what else they are going to find when the head comes off. Twiggy and alf892

Needs a home mechanic really who can do the job themselves.

Stand to be corrected, but I'd be surprised if you could get one that cheap, they're quite rare now and the majority got bummed by Land-Rover owners. sierraman
