...time for some truly dreadful shite collection. Although only about 6 miles away, I drove there and left my car outside, just in case I'd biked there and this pile of wank wasn't driveable...

163,000 miles or something. The gearbox has gone to shit it seems, but it got us back ok. The release bearing sounds whiny, it crunches going into sometimes second and all the time third. It's ab-so-lutely gopping inside, not much better outside but was just stupidly, ridiculously cheap.

That doesn't actually look THAT bad. A good wash would see t looking like it could draw a few quid from the Eastern European community.

I presume Facebook beckons for this?

Probably not, as it came from a family member so I don't want them knowing about the 8,000% mark up :)

Ugh, that was quite presumptive.  Sorry.  I'm toying with the idea of a diesel, and these are a bloody useful car.  I reckon it'd sell well on here - and I'd certainly be interested to hear a bit more.

As soon as someone is daft enough to buy it, it'll be gone. Fair to assume the box is knackered I reckon, last owner said he was struggling to get 2nd and 3rd. We got all of them but it crunches going into at least two of them.
Poxy VAG shit.

Is it derv? Get it on ebay - dad got £350 for his with a borked box - even a clutch / dmf on a passat that old is not economical.

I've seen some good Luk and Sacks DMFs on amazon at reasonable enough prices; and the 5 speed ones of these convert to single mass well if you're that way inclined

I've been offered an 04 plate Jag diesel thing tonight, too. It looks fucking awful, has no MOT and he wants £300 for it.

Verdict: AVOIDED.

Not wishing to tread on Cavcraft toes here, but my Grandad might soon be giving up driving and has said I could have his 99 S reg 1.9 tdi 110bhp estate with only a 110,000 genuine miles which he owned for about 14 years.

The clutch is a bit past it's best but the car has the 5 speed box mentioned, overall the car is in great condition otherwise. It's just having a new front caliper with front brakes due to the caliper fail and a cambelt change in the next week as it needed sorting. Plus I'm having the garage change the oil and filter.

I was hoping it be worth £500+ as the bill is going to be not far off that but not being into VW's I haven't really looked into it's value and what they go for should my Grandad give it me.

I'd like to sell it and give him the cash towards a new garden shed he needs!

If you need a gearbox I now have three, two 130 6 speeders and a 100 5 speeder, so far I've only managed to collect one.

99 should be B5 with veg friendly TDi engine, but stand to be corrected. Budget £500 (or whatever the clutch etc costs) then same again in electricity to run the wet and dry vac for the back foot wells.

Thanks, but with the best respect in the world I think I'd sooner get towed down the road on my bare arse at 80mph than spend much time repairing a Volkswagen.

No probs but I certainly won't complain about them as I was given the whole lot, it's strange just how worthless they are.

Ours is a B5 shape Passat with the AFN engine code?

Can't say I'm bothered about VW's myself but each to there own, I'm sure if we sell ours it make a great car for someone but I just sick of people thinking a VW / Audi is superior over anything else.

if I hear my uncle go on one more time about his VW Transporter T5, with it's epic build etc.
