Junkman
After the recent French disaster, I had a long Pinot Noir fuelled discussion with myself and questioned my general shite related position. The Range Rover of much reliability is on the way out due to being rendered surplus to requirements.Which leaves the P6 V8 and the 405 on active duties. The 405 is here to stay, and not only because the Junkwoman would revert to drastic measures should I as much as contemplate to get rid of it.No, it's also because it's one of the best of the seriously not many left now. I want to see it maturing into a classic while I own it. The P6? Not so sure. Although I'm a great fan of plastic grilled Series 2 P6 V8s with pretentious bulges in the bonnet and the most half arsed badgingknown to mankind, the one I currently own is way too primadonnalike due to its unspoiled sub 27k miles originality.I fail to emotionally bond with the car and basically regret every mile I drive it, because it removes it further from its virginity. That it also isn't as loose (read: a clapped out heap) as I prefer my cars to be, doesn't help and I just don't want to be the man who does this tothis probably last example in existence exactly like the factory put it together over the few remaining decades I have left at the wheel. The car deserves to go to someone who appreciates it more than I do. In plain English, I need something that's more shite. For me to hoon around in. No considerations as to its practicality, or it having to be used formundane transportation duties, nothing.I just need a toy for me to drive to the Cannock chod floggings, or the odd Stockcar race, or the Bromyard Festival of Bloody Brilliant, or otherimportant stuff like that. I'm not sure yet where this is going, but I promise that I will have come up with a solution before this week is over.Because I owe it to you guys. Because I failed in France. Because I'm right. Magnificent Rustbucket
If you want very rare indeed and lots of cylinders, it's hard to beat this on either measure... http://www.handh.co.uk/buy/1994-daimler-majestic/5102 They're quite good at rusting too - and probably a one-way ticket to bankruptcy as a daily driver. Junkman
Those last ever proper c. 1980 Detroit land yachts with their six litre 120 PS engines and static caravan interiors are quite attractive, but sadly extremely thin on the grounds in unmonged spec. Hence good ones I'm constantly actively scanning the web for usually turn out to be beyond Junkbudget. Sorry, no Chinese tosh, and if I wanted something running on heavy oil, I'd buy a Lanz Bulldog. eddyramrod, mercrocker, alcyonecorporation and 2 others

Longblackcoat
Seriously, get an STS. They're reasonably modern (though the youngest will be 15 years old now) in terms of things that work, like electrics and stuff, but they've got all of the correct period features (crap handling, massive fuel consumption, appalling interior, too large to park anywhere) of a mid/late 80's Yank Tank. Plus they come in a range of deeply unattractive colours. And you can get a decent one for about £1500. What's not to like? garbaldy
Drive it!The funny thing is it would probably make it and better than the last time with the Merc. I think booking an MOT in Scotland and driving back might be stretching the letter of the law a bit.
