So I've mentioned in the past that SP_Snr has a Mondeo that I make use of while he's away for most of the year sipping Gin and Tonics in sunny Goa. I thought I'd pop a post on here just showing how manky this heap is (mostly his doing I hasten to add) to see if any sucker wants to bite/any masochist wants to suffer/anyone needs a cheap large-ish car;

I did start a thread about looking for an S Type for him as a replacement, that idea has been sidelined for now - given that I can't use this thing for any work purposes (too shite for work use) and the tip runs are no longer needed I am thinking of getting rid of it. Only problem is, there are so many for sales and roffle threads on at the moment - there is an excess of shite being disposed of with the majority of it far better a proposition than this!

Good Points:

MOT to 26/04/2017 - have every expectation it'll pass the next one.

Cheapish to run - £185 tax, 50+ MPG

2.0 Turbo Diesel - fairly quick for an old bus and drives well around town or on motorway, turbo provides a healthy shove when you need it.

Comfy Ghia spec, with dirty beige velour, auto dimming rear view mirror and in-dash 6 cd player*

Climate Control - HVAC works fine, aircon is lovely and cold, heater is toasty.

6 Airbags, ABS - std. safety stuff for Mondeo of this age

Tyres - all cheapo brands but all have good tread

All lights, wipers and main controls work fine.

Heated screens work - front is a bit 'barcode' like but is functional.

Some service history documented, owned since 2006.

People avoid you on the road.

People avoid parking near you in the supermarket.

Bad Points:

Just look at it, it's been driven by Mr Magoo. Loads of dents, scrapes and bad paintwork.

 - Lower part of front bumper cracked as a little doggy ran out into the traffic on the A406 from a car on the hard shoulder. No time to react - doggy became roadkill :(

 - SP_Snr appears to have tried a DIY paint repair on the O/S rear quarter. It looks shite but might come off with some rubbing compound or a bit of effort with some fine wet and dry.

 - scratches and dents down the sides.

 - a little rust at the very bottom seam of both rear doors.

Central locking is temperamental - sometimes the rear nearside door doesn't lock/unlock from the remote, sometimes the drivers door doesn't lock/unlock from the remote. All doors lock centrally from the key in the door though.

Main key is very worn but still operates the drivers door and ignition. Doesn't open the bonnet though so need to use the spare for that - which does open all locks and starts the car.

CD player sometimes displays error 3.

Passenger side door mirror took a knock - glass has cracks but is 'intact' and functional. No sharp edges for MOT fail.

Suspect the DMF is getting a bit tired after 147,000 miles. I think the car sounds noisier than it has in the past. Starts and runs fine though (could just be 'because diesel' - I've only ever owned petrol cars so I don't know if it's ignorance or paranoia).

So does anyone have any need for a Mondeo MK3? Other than looking a bit ratty and it's many little foibles, its been reliable, economical and safe transport - the only thought is that with it sounding noisy I suspect the Dual Mass Flywheel may be complaining a bit so you will be playing roulette with that.

Â£150? If there is roffle appetite, £2.50 a pop?

£3.50 a pop roffle (see the later post for the reasons etc - includes Genuine Ford Roof Rack) - Located in Epsom, Surrey.

Now Sold to The Moog!

Moog selling again for £120

I uetterly despise these things, but if you were nearer I'd snatch your hands off as it's MEGA_BARGAIN

These things are certainly love/hate - personally if the bodywork was good I'd keep and use for work (majority of my road miles) as with fuel paid for by work using a mileage allowance, it's mega cheap compared to my pez car. Problem is, it'd be like turning up to the clients like that string vest bloke whose name I forget - not a good look and sadly, that matters for my job.

That interior looks clean, nice place to be. Outside looks like its been valeted by concrete.

Funny you should mention that - Dad used to work at Ford in Dagenham, car often used to come home covered in cement dust due to various works going on in a very industrial area.

That was many years ago now... the damage has mostly been done by stationary things bumping into him. Apparently.

You are too far for me to take advantage of you so,

Cat £90 minimum if the code ends in BA , if it's CA double it

Injectors if ok £100 a set

Alloys £70

Turbo if ok £40

Dual mass and clutch if ok £90

Various trim bit's add up to a couple of ton easily and the shell will weigh in for £90

Sorry to sound all "PH" but this is absolutely the perfect "Station Car/Snotter". Enough grunt to catch that earlier train, enough scars not to give a shit where you leave it (be it the car park or adjacent to some poor sods driveway on the neighbouring estate)

Can not reconcile this being worth just hunnitfiddybucks.

By the way, in the passenger side door bin that is the handle of a window scraper, not a large red dildo.

Just saying.

In that case I'm ooot

I have no need of another Mondeo but can confirm that Mk3s are great. Can't believe it hasn't sold already TBH. A clutch specialist down the road from me in SE London did my 3.0 V6 clutch and slave cylinder for £400, though I don't think it has a DMF.

If it roffles 22 and 44 please.

I actually quite like that (especially the beige velour) and can say that at that price, it is an absolute bargain. I have no doubt that someone here shall soon bite your hand off for it.

The interior is very comfy but looks much nicer in the pictures. Certainly not bogging though!

Whatever you stick up your arse is your own business, mate. :-)

Well, I could leave it in the car for a sniff if anyone is into that kinda thing... :)

Does your dad know you're selling it?

He does, in fact he suggested it.

It's certainly worth less intact than it would be in parts, it's just having the time to strip and sell - strangely I do have the space and a garage for storage - would a non-rolling shell really fetch £90? Mrs SP's dad only got £50 or thereabouts for his intact and rolling MK2 with a borked clutch.

I know - if I didn't have to go to client sites by car it really is great for this, it's so nice not caring if anyone leaves a trolley against it or gives it a bump when parking in front/behind it. The price is just an AS price, I know from my time on here that it'll be less hassle to sell and will be of use to someone, rather than dealing with ebay/gumtree people who (even with all faults disclosed) will still expect a unicorn that sh*ts rainbows. If I do go down that route I'll have to get a new simcard.

Uber bargain and Mr SP is a sound bloke too. Go for it someone.

Cheers Ken! How's the S40, done anything with it yet?

Hiya, I seem to have acquired alloy wheels and a leather interior for it.

Not entirely sure how that happened. I may get round to fitting them when the temperature remains constantly above 'not very much at all'.

Upgrades! Do the really nice sounding audio systems from the larger models fit(or can they be made to fit) the S40/V40?

I don't know tbh, I thought this sounded pretty good, however, this might be due to the fact that the audio in the Alfo doesn't seem to function properly, the one in the Golf works but gets hot and the one in the i10 seems to hate actually locking on to a radio signal for more that 1 minute and 15 seconds.

150 quid for a comfy diesel motor, 45 mpg and an MOT. Fuck me.

No thanks. However, buy this Mondeo and you can F**k yourself* (according to whats in the passenger door card)

Is scrap currently that low that you can buy a Turbo Diesel car with 4 months test for £150? If so now is the time to buy.

*Not just Rev Bluejeans, but any new owner can!

A mate has shown interest in this, so will be taking off sale till he's given me a decision but the same evening two of our esteemed flock have also shown interest by personal message so they'll get first and second refusal if it's not gone!

Thanks for all the love for the Mondeo!
