Got a few myself. Transferred into my Mobil One containers jus to fill up in front of neighbours like.

Reminds me of when I was a 'lad' working at an old school filling station.  "We need some more distilled water 'Guv', bottles on forecourt are all empty"..........."We fill them up from the tap came the reply"...........mmmmmmm I thought, so started filling them up from the tap.  "Not that tap, the one out the back of the workshop"......With me thinking the tap out the back of the workshop might be fed by some bulk tank, I reverberated "Why is is different water in that tap".............."No, The Customers can't see you out there"..................caught me offguard he had, got me on that one.

The Redex looked genuine and the Two Stroke Oil was as well.  It wasn't all 'make for our Guv' cos when I got my FS1E I used to fill the Autolube tank for a the cost of a single 5p shot, now who's caught who offguard me old Guv.   I did about two years of two stroke for pennies and must have wiped out his lifetime worth of 'gain' on distilled water in next to no time.............caught him offguard I had, got him back on that one.

Anybody know where they source their 'Own-brand' (ie:re-packaged) oil from? I'd heard via a third party it was mainly from Comma, is this the case or does it vary?

I think it is. As long as the API ratings match the current branded stuff, then it's all good IMO. Or if it is going in a shitter, whatevz!

Definitely Comma.

The way to check is to download the technical data sheet on the Halfords site where it states Comma is the supplier. No bad thing, they know their stuff and I think still blend Mobil1 for the European market.

Lo and behold, the Touran threw up the service indicator at the weekend, and since it's a VAGTDI it's only satisfied with the most luxurious of oils which cost a flamin' fortune. The minute you put some 5W30 instead of 5W40 in though, KABOOM. Cogs and springs flying everywhere.

I'll have to go and see if it's still on, thanksverymuchly

It was this: http://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-fluids/engine-oil/halfords-5w40-fully-synthetic-oil-4l

It meets the specification of Mercedes 229.3, BMW LL-98, VW502.00 / 505.00, Renault RN0700/715 and Porsche.

Safety Data Sheet is pretty clear where this oil came from:

I can never remember what oil it needs without going into loads of forums, getting confused, cursing, and then just checking the leftover bottle from the last change and hoping that somewhere in this cycle I actually got good advice.

I thought it was 5-0-something-point-01 though rather than 00. The 5 and 7 is to do with long life servicing or not, I took ours off that because it means it's going up to 20k. Just by doing a manual service counter reset you knock it onto 10k fixed servicing.

Phew, glad they've not made that confusing!

505.01 I think is what I use, although since I don't do long life servicing I think 505.00 will do. I think I was putting 01 in just in case I missed an oil change.

No idea what a WIV is, or whether I have one.

I think it's 506 spec oil for the pd engine maybe, I also find it confusing too. Just to be on safe side I would just use vw quantum pd oil, I bought some from Lancaster vw delivered for £25 about two weeks ago, which is alot cheaper than halfords. Atleast you know it's the correct stuff. Pd spec oil is never cheap from halfords.

Based on what I can find my 1.9PD can use 507 spec oil. Hellfrauds do 5l of 5w30 for £43 (a bit less if you have someone with a card)

My Civic takes 5.8l of 0W-30 in either C2 or C3 spec. 5.8 litres is very awkward because oil usually comes in either 4l or 5l containers.

The correct stuff costs me £62. Every 12.5k or 1 year intervals too.

Just to make it even better, it also burns a litre an a bit between those intervals as well.

Thanks Honda!
