UmBongo
I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's a fecking disgrace that someone with an 80s or 90s weekend machine has to pay a high rate of vehicle tax. Kiltox and cros
cros
Indeed. You are taxed on your choice of car, not the pollution you actually cause. Encouraging people to throw vehicles away prematurely either because of scrappage scheming or built in unfixability is also wank.
Richard
The Irish system seems to be simpler, but eye-wateringly expensive. http://www.mywheels.ie/motor-tax-rates-ireland/

If you can afford a second car as a plaything is £230 max or whatever it is spread over 365 days a huge amount? hennabm and Tamworthbay

406V6
Admittedly not much of a concern for shiters until 2028 when the cars are much older and have come down in price but the £40k list price limit for the lower tax is a problem if you want something interesting - by which I mean having a decent powerful smooth refined waft-o-matic engine. These days there's not much interesting that costs less than £40k. They all seem to come with 2 litre tractor engines and who will want one of those in 2028 ?
