pshome
Did these get better looking with the facelift? Like the 405, I think they did.Yes, facelift gave it more character, much prefer over the early ones. Junkman

pshome
So what did we expect to bring home today? According to the previous owner, a 1986 Turbo 505 with the second version of the engine, 160hp with intercooler. Paperwork confirms this. The first generation was without intercooler at 150HP. There was a later variant with 180HP which is pretty rare because it quickly dissapeared in favour of a catalysed version taking it back to 150HP. At the very end of the 505 Turbo career, a catalysed version with 174 HP appeared 1998 with only few cars being delivered in Europe. So what did we actually get? A car with chassis number 1922905. This clearly makes it a 1986 model, even though a very late one. Let's check that engine ID plate: 1NA11 176 C it says. Quick look at the reference book: Seems Peugeot was so kind to install the 1987 180HP engine into the last of the 86 models.Grin, smile, happiness. Story is here: http://autoshite.com/topic/20474-hot-505/Apparently it was necessary to find this 505 Turbo.2016, "Auto Bild Classic" a german classic car magazine reported about the accident. That lead in 2017 to the call resulting in this collection. pshome
Good progress made today. Tagora donor engine... is now headless. 505 preped and eagerly waiting for the "culasse". Now things started to not work out as smooth as we thought. Nothing here to fix that last bolt? We decided, it's a typical case of french overengineering! if 8 bolts are good enough for a Tagora, 505 will run just fine with that.We found those rings in a box. To strenghten the exhaust manifold that holds the Turbocompressor? Won't fit, no groove milled into the Tagora head! That Garrett turbo is not that heavy, is it? French overengineering! One more... spot the difference: 505 Tagora Yes, you got it, 9 bolts to fix the injection is french overengineering, 8 will do. At the end, it's where we want it, one way or another. If you need 505 Turbo parts, just follow us on the Autobahn. Once we hit 200 km/h, whatever you need can be found on inner lane. pshome
Moving ahead today. All the Turbo bits and some more came in a box, puzzling puzzle.. At the end, all is in the (hopefully) right place. Time to turn the key... Yeaahh! Its back to live! r.welfare
Handsome car, well done for getting it running again. Lacquer Peel
No round the corner fan belt I R dissapoint...Luvin dem alloys thoughThe RTC fan belt setup is only on some FWD Peugeot cars with viscous fans. Obviously not an issue with the engine pointing the correct way. Inspiring and awesome thread as ever. Good collision of spare engine and lovely 505 with a gubbed engine. pickup57 and pshome

Why do all old RWD Peugeots (504, 505) with manual gearboxes look like the gearknob is on backwards? Very true, however once you've used them with the 'hook' to the rear it feels quite right and comfortable.

Magnificent Rustbucket
My dad had a metallic green 505STI with green tweed for a short time from 1st August 1979 - he bought one of the early ones delivered in the UK, but didn't keep it long since it was so troublesome. I seem to recall that it didn't have the bizarre seat runners that meant he could never get completely comfortable when driving a distance in the 504 or 604. The 505 is a very handsome car - one of Pininfarina's triumphs. pickup57 and pshome
alcyonecorporation
Shit. I actually understood what the first three Junkman-pshome-Junkman exchanges were about without hammering poogle translate. "Do you know why Austrians put 'A' on the back of their cars?" "So everyone can tell they're arseholes." It's been a long time since 'meinem Abitur', so my translation may be crap.
