Bunbury is lovely, used to work at Calveley just down the road and the charmingless boss and his family were from Bunbury.

Yes haughton is the place, were you at two connected houses, opposite an old farmhouse, and some barn conversions? If it is, that's my old shared driveway, and the seller is unique to say the least.

I honestly can't remember. It was a white cottage type house, i didn't notice next door. Don't think he was opposite barn conversion, open field iirc. Seemed a nice enough bloke, would have been about 1/2 mile or so from that stunning big farm. His initials are MH and he had a Vectra so he must have been ok.

I think that's a couple of houses down the road, probably half a mile away from where i thought, There was an old guy hoarding cars in his paddock in between, like a shiters dream. Passed away now and redeveloped into a lovely place. The farm you talk about is stunning, the brickwork in the huge barn is fantastic, its not seen a cow or a crop in years.

The Astra has scrubbed up extremely well though, good result on that. These are still popular with the Young Team, street credz innit.

That Astra's cleaned up very nicely by the way. The 3 door is still a pretty fresh and modern looking design imho

The guy who bought my Escort 4x4 has been building up his retirement fund

At the last count he has over 25 mk5/6 RS2000s,11 of which are 4x4 and 4 of those are mk5b facelifts

He started buying them when they were getting scrapped with the rear chassis rot

Makes his own rails,battery trays and floor panels then welds them up and parks them.

He does have access to massive amounts of storage space though

I like mk 1 focii but cannot understand what the fuss was about with the ST - my brother had two from brand new. Thirsty and flat as a witches tit. But cos its ford it will be worth £££.

I've been eyeing one of these up for a while now, this one turned up today locally. Right colour, decent spec, though sadly not the CDTi 150. It's a 1.6 pez.

Obvs. like it was cheap, and needs an ABS reluctor ring/speed sensor thing, and some front pads that actually contain pad material. Being a sad bastard, I think these are a right looker of a car, exactly 827.6 times nicer than the 5 door ones, as it 'appens.

 

1.6 SXI? I think its probably a blessing in disguise that its anything BUT a 1.9 150, everyone ive ever known with that lump in an Astra has suffered gearbox failure, EGR valve, alternator, inlet manifold swirl flaps and clutch and DMF failure, none of which the n/a petrols suffered with because half of that they dont have, the other half are actually decent components on the petrols.

 

BTW -5 out of 10 for the interior pic, you actually bought a car with a clean tidy interior and fitted mats, wheres the half a farmyard I was expecting to see inside it?

 

I quite like those. The copy-paste Vectra interior looks horrid though.

 

I actually think the interior on these is really nice, still looks fresh inside and nowhere near as bland as the Astra J and K models which came after it.

Aye Saxo VTR and VTS is a good shout if you are lucky enough to chance upon the 0.01% of them thats left which hasnt been badly, distastefully modified, they all seemed to be modified from brand new, the boy racers seemed to buy the new because of the free insurance on them and then ruin them with half silver/half limo black window tints, lexarse rear lights, massive jap stylr burnt tip baked bean tin diameter exhausts, induction kits with cold air feeds crudely cut into the bumper, debadged meshed grilles, angel eyes, m3 mirrors, speedbump scraping suspension, 6x9s in the parcel shelf, some wanky aftermarket head unit, lockwood white dials, a badly fitted remote start clifford alarm, and massive subwoofers and amps taking up the entire bootspace. Then there were the ones with chrome wheels, resprayed in lairy colours with ugly bodykits, I mean why, how much must that have cost, you could probably have bought a decent car with good performance for that kinda dosh.

 

Then there were the really stupid ones who stuck the 16v badges from a VTS on the rear quarters behind the rear side windows. 

 

I think maybe one day even the C2 VTS will fall into the worth decent coin bracket because they despite being modern were still a fun, "proper" hot hatch. 

 

Youll know better than me probably, have late Corsa B Sports started increasing in value yet? Theyre coming up on 20years old now, so the folk who had them as young guys will now be in their 40s and getting the nostalgia kicking in round about now and wanting to relive their youth with one. Again if theres any decent unmolested or even slightly tastefully modified ones about. 

 

Id also chip in with mk5 Fiesta Zetec S? sure to be worth a decent amount because there will be hardly any left with them all rotting away.

I ran a ST170 as a daily for a year or so, there a nice drive, they handle great, if you rev the knackers off them they can shift, nice toys inside, heated seats, cd player, aircon etc etc.

Aye but they are the sort of car you just wouldnt trust to jump in and do a 500mile journey without anything going wrong causing an FTP, this is fine on an older car but not something so modern they were still on sale until 6years ago. 

 

Astras get a bad press, a lot of people dont like them, but they have their plus points in that they are largely cheap to run, cheap to repair, reliable, no fuss, dependable transport, the 1.9 CDTI just ruins everything, hateful pieces of shite that ruin an otherwise decent if bland car. They are to Vauxhalls what the pre-2011 1.6 TDCI is to Fords IMO.

We've got a brand new three piece clutch in the (packing) box we're 'going to fit soon' that probably won't happen! I've done about 45-50 miles in it so far I think on the slipping clutch. Taking off is ok, then it's just getting the right amount of revs, a bit of a prayer and ease into next gear. I harboured stupid thoughts about driving it to London like it is for a laugh, but don't think it'll come about.

Yeah, you'd probably quit laughing when the clutch refuses to let you push enough air out of the way to exceed 45mph on the M6. But I bet it'd gently bimble about a (flat) town for a few months before expiring. Japanese innit.
