Crusty Carlton

This car reminds me of the Areg 1800 L Carlton I had for a few months as a company car. It was even more basic than this one and desperately slow, but I still liked it.

One of the most frustrating journies of my life was rushing* back from Swansea to Milton Keynes after getting the call that Mrs N had gone into labour with our first daughter. The fucking thing would fall flat on its face in 5th gear and couldn't manage to sustain a 100 unless you dropped it into 4th. Off the motorway, overtaking was exciting too. i did make it back in time and the poor Carlton was still ticking and stinking 3 hours later when I went home from the hospital, that was 30 years ago this August- doesn't time fly?

Bought a 2200cdi a few years later for MrsN, but I don't rember that with as much affection, don't know why, maybe all that green velour was just trying too hard. Carltons always worked best as basic roomy sloggers.

I don't want it either, of course.
