STUNO
This looks like a good project for the coalman. I'm sure he could do something with itAn incredibly cheap purchase and he could sail it home. NZ$ 5000.00 will buy it. that's about 3000 GB pounds !! http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/motorboats/auction-1195343412.htm coalnotdole, Aston Martin and Anthony30

M'coli
The Rainbow warrior didn't sink itself, this looks like it could! tooSavvy, HillmanImp and AMC Rebel
Barry Cade
It'll be fine, none of the corrosion is within 30cm of a seatbelt or suspension component. nigel bickle, anonymous user, cms206 and 16 others
AMC Rebel
In theory I would love something like this - in practice it would turn out like the local bloke who bought one of the retired Vulcan Bombers and then ran out of money very fast paying for storage. My guess is keeping it legal and somewhere would cost a lot - although there are a lot of abandoned hulks around the coast of Ireland suggesting some people were more optimistic than me. DodgeRover
I think that's a bargain, it's got the worth maybe double that in bits and scrap steel at least, the survey says the hull is sound. If I needed another huge money pit/ place to live this would definitely be the way forwards. STUNO

coalnotdole
I agree that looks to be a mega bargain! I'd be slightly concerned about the condition of the Voith drives as when the seals go your looking at mega money to sort them out. Even more so if they've continued to be used whilst leaking. Basically as the oil in the units cools after being run up to temperature it pulls seawater in through the damaged seals which then gets pumped through the drive next time you run it! You can usually tell if they're shot by running them up as large slicks of oil will appear from under the boat as they warm up! It's a project too far for me I think - the draft would be too deep for me to get it up the river to my yard and I also have a slightly realistic expectation of my maintenance and fuel budget! It's exactly the type of tug that they can't get enough of in Nigeria at the moment - loads of uk tugs have been sailed back there recently, regardless of whether or not they'd been sunk a few months previously! I'm surprised it hasn't been exported - maybe there's a reason? If someone here does buy it I will officially hand over the "ship shite" crown to you You could make mass profit just by parting it out on eBay.....
