Probably not the best idea: Warning: contains (half-arsed) team photo.

In the general scheme of things, collecting a car that's stood for 6 months, struggled to start a few days ago, was even worse tonight, has a shagged battery in rush hour traffic on a horrible road with a nightmare set of temp traffic lights and with no dashboard illumination probably wasn't a good idea. But, WHATEVS.

Driving home still a blast. Just like my old SRi one it pulled really really well and wanted to torque steer in 2nd/3rd if you gunned it. Handling as wooden as they always were, ditto the stalks and general feel inside. Old iPhone used to light the speedo up, smoked an Audi Q3 (or whatever those junior 4x4 things are) off at the lights in some style, and made it home. When I had one of these back in the day my favourite tune was Snap's Rhythm Is A Dancer. Played it non-stop including down the two way radio in my ATS van to annoy everyone.

Rolled up round the back before, fiddled with the radio and guess what it played on the first station it could find? Only that song. It must be fate.

Pictures of horrifically badly 'repaired' rear arches, the spares and other things in the next bit of daylight I get to see at home.

Meanwhile, I'll leave you with this:

Parasites by the dashboard light (mileage genuine I think)

Right, fitted the good battery off the scrapped Punto to the Cav today. It's a bit smaller than it should be, but the car fired up first crack and ticked over with no effort.

Also, temp gauge started working when it should, on the drive home the other day it took forever to start working, and the car took a bit to tick over nicely. Bringing it back here would have helped, but I reckon the battery I've fitted has really helped it. Will get round to checking the dashboard illumination lights, possibly a faulty dimmer switch, and the ever present rocker cover leak will be cured when I get a gasket for it.

Had a look in the boot, some fabulous old giffer stuff in there, including an old cantilever metal tool box stuffed with stuff inc. spare plugs etc. All the kind of stuff that makes me really happy.

My Astra GTE had the same type of dimmer switch for the instruments I think, it stopped working as the digital speedo hit three figures which gave me some sort of plausible deniability if stopped by the cops.

Anyway, when I wazzed it backwards and forwards loads of fusty white electro-mould came out and it eventually worked again

Nice that it came with those wheel-mounted frisbees.

Topic suggestion: In the fashion of which field-based sporting event should Billy throw those trimz in? Discus:

I see what you did there :-D
