SiC
The amount spent here on the pages is utterly mind boggling. Seems a shame to let that go to waste. I think thats pretty common on Saabs tbh. They get under your skin and you can't help but keep throwing money at them to make them work properly. Its probably why Saabs are seen as reliable things - because the owners always throw money at them! My 9-5 has quite a few large bills attached to it too. I've noticed that there is quite a few Bristol Saab specialist bits of paperwork in there - some I didn't even know existed! (Well probably don't any more either). For some peculiar reason, Bristol has a large quantity of Saab specialists... Shep Shepherd
fatharris
There's one in the next village over from me, so I'll probably pop in and get them to plug it in to diagnose the EML.
SiC
Yeah, you really need a Tech2 to properly diagnose these. This has given me a big urge to get a 9000 next. *Goes off creating saved searches on eBay for 9000* Shep Shepherd
dome
The centre rear panels always seem to do that, you might struggle to find a non knackered one these days. Re bulb warning-there are 2 taillight bulbs on each side at the rear so pull the covers off and see what's working For the lack of oomph check the wastegate is working properly and that you have no boost leaks. It should be pretty quick if the mods are still fitted. I'd guess the dodgy clutch position is whats causing the cruise not to engage, have a look at the switch above the clutch pedal. I always fitted an uprated engine top mount-these tend to be shot. A new one(although it may well have had one) will make it feel much nicer and stop the gear lever moving when you lift off the throttle without being too harsh. I look forward to seeing your progress with this one, I still love these. myglaren and fatharris
RoadworkUK
Looks OK actually:) Re performance. I had the 150bhp 2.0lpt in a 9-3. Fucking grim. Yup. Now imagine a ZF four-speed box and 20 fewer horsepower. That was mine!
tooSavvy
My 9000lpt had an issue.... Squeeze the throttle hard and you got a 'hiccup..hiccup..hiccup' bump through the drive/engine [auto]. SOFT acc minimised this.... Local dealer diagnosed jamned/rusted wgate = ECU cuts power on overboost FCUK... Cheap car + crippling bills .... Sheefag
I went from an 850T5 to a 9000 2.0lpt and wasn't disappointed. My only criticism after getting used to the almost upright steering wheel, was that the clutch felt like it needed two feet on it instead of one. SiC
The WIS (workshop information system) and EPC (electronics part catalogue) are particularly handy. I can't remember exactly, but I seem to remember seeing the 9000 on the WIS model list.. Shep Shepherd
SiC
V44 is the latest image for old Saabs. Newer images lost the 900/9000. GlobalTIS contains the image too and that allows you to flash it straight on. Shep Shepherd

Shep Shepherd
Yes. I think it might have been from a former dealer or else had come off the back a of lorry somewhere between Linkoping and Luton
richardthestag
Rear brake light out warning lights remain illuminated on the dash despite being fine. Shitroen had this with some wanky CANBUZ system that it uses. wrong type of bulb caused error, replaced all bulbs with same spec as handbook and NOT LEDz and all is well again. SiC
Yes. I think it might have been from a former dealer or else had come off the back a of lorry somewhere between Linkoping and Luton Genuine Vauxhall/Saab/isuzu/Suzuki tech 2 are few and far between! You can tell if it doesn't have GM on it and if you look under the memory slot cover there is a date code printed on the metal. Apparently the quality is not much better. I was told that the HP built ones were the best. The latest Bosch version is no better than the China clones. Shep Shepherd
Shep Shepherd
Mine is the Vetronix version, has the GM logo on the front, the date code inside the slot, the 'VOID' stickers on the back and is US-made, which I presume means it's kosher. Even if it isn't a genuine unit, it's a great piece of kit which has saved me time and money on many occasions myglaren
SiC
I forgot to mention. I'd you take the coil pack off, if you ever invert it (I.e. plug connection facing the sky) you need to leave it facing down for 30 minutes or so. Even if you turn it upside for a very short period. There is oil in the coil pack to keep the coils cool. When you flip it over, that oil moves elsewhere in the coilpack and takes time to move pack to the coils. If you don't, it apparently shortens the life and damages them. Not sure how true this is all, but this is what the internet recommends, sounds plausible and coil packs are too pricey to experiment otherwise! Easiest thing is to take it off and leave it pointing the right way up when working on the car. Shep Shepherd and fatharris

fatharris
So, what have I found so far? First off, the exhaust manifold is missing some studs, which means the gasket has slipped and there is a lot of bubbling when the engine is running. The turbo is spinning though, so that's a relief. The bottom hose of the radiator is held on with luck, the jubilee clip has broken. Really lucky that didn't go on the way home. The cap is clearly showing signs of leaking, so that'll need replacing. The tank itself seems fine. Power steering hose has seen better days. Top mount is pretty ballbagged too. There is also a loud air leak somewhere. Oh dear. fatharris
Right, the water pipe has been resecured. Next job was the sunroof would only lift, and get stuck when trying to retract. The seals were rock hard and full of crap. Quick scrape with a screwdriver, and boom! Next, the idle control valve was removed and cleaned. Annoyingly, it still is a bit of a pain to start. Next, the heated seats. Initial checks proved there was 12v to the switch, but there's no continuity through the switch. More investigation needed. The plug to the TPS has an annoying snag, it feeds into the ECU, but hasn't broken yet. May just fill it with solder and tape it up, as there isn't enough surplus wire at the plug end for a permanent repair. Finally, I cleaned Herman and the Rover, and had a driveway shuffle. Now, hopefully this comes up a lot better. Before: After pictures to follow once I'm done! The Moog, trigger, SiC and 7 others
xtriple
I had a 9000 turbo, rescued it from Broadways scrapyard for £30 with a still current MOT. It was white with black leather, lovely wheels, good tyres etc and went like shit off a shovel. It had an unfortunate habit of losing all assistance to the steering at random intervals which made it a bit hairy to drive. I sold it when my wife and I were moving in to our new house. By then it had packed up completely (some immobiliser fault) but it still sold for £150 so a result. fatharris
A lot of the oxidisation came off, but it's still very much in need of a good polish. It's a start though. Cleon-Fonte, Robson3022, dome and 12 others
tooSavvy
When I did my HG (in the street & alone) After getting the head + Ex off [skimmed it] I removed the ex studs - refitted the head - slid the ExMan back onto the trrbo/positioned the ex gasket/ refitted the Ex studs. That way I dodged the 'trrbo removal' bullet. I also knew about coilpack 'no invert'! TS
