I could be wrong. That might have been the one litre.

That was the Chrysler Sunbeam with Imp "power" at the front and RWD.

Edit -

Ma had the Imp motor big-ends go in her catshit-brown Sunbeam which I then rope-towed 40 miles home with my dogshit-brown Ambassador. Would have made a good calendar photo.

Yup - had one of those, bought from auction for a tenner in 2002.  One old biddy from new, 39K miles on the clock.  My most enduring memory is being out-dragged by a G-reg Transit DI away from a roundabout on the A11.

.... IIRC it has a 'boat anchor' flywheel & drives through an Avenger Gearbox... not bad in of itself but the poor IMP lump was really 'friction drive' as it attempted to put energy into it..!!

Sorry to have messed you around a bit but I can't make this one a go.  Once I factor in distance and repairs and other expenses, it's just not feasible for me as a solution to the Rover problem.  Disappointing really.

No problem I understand, I hope you get something sorted.

I have had some tentative interest via PM, watch this space!

Yeah but telling all your Escort owning friends you had a Coventry Climax engine (who did fairly well in motorsport I believe) in your car always went down well......

... a 'bell polisher' in the IMP Club is actually knocking out 'Coventry Climax' alloy lettering on your IMP cambox cover..... Deposit required/exchange!!

OOOfff... Something for the RealAle brigade...what??

My parents bought a new Imp in 1976. It was shit, totally unreliable and earned the name of the 'Hillman Limp'.

They finally got shot of it by trading it in for a 930cc Chrysler Sunbeam......

I told my Mum that the salesman did her over with the Sunbeam as it had the same engine as the Imp but she was having none of it just repeating that the Imp was shit.

That sounds about right from my memory of how it drove.

I trust your knowledge on this, seeing as how you've visited the factory an' all...

Pah!  Newfangled tosh!  Give me a Class 205 any day - now that was a D(E)MU.

I am much more a steam/early diesel fan but some second generation DMU's are now 30 years old and are some of the last remnants of British Rail, when virtually every train on BR was built in the UK, so I think interest in these is rising. Give me a rattly class 116 DMU any day! I love Thumper's especially the sound they make when pulling away.

Back to the Horizon, I have had two expressions of interest on here but neither have been followed up. I will be putting it up on Car and Classic tonight.

Sorry I never got back to you - I need a car on a mainstream policy instead of being restricted to 5000 miles pa on a classic policy. My insurer charges me £570 for the Fiesta, and wanted £1470 for the Horizon! Therefore I have reluctantly had to give it a miss! I feel sure that you could as £1,000 for this and settle at an offer of £750 - £800. I would like to lead everyone in thanking you for offering it here at a low price first!

No problem, glad you have got things sorted out.

I am not sure if it is really worth £1,000 as it only has two months MOT and needs a fair bit of work.

  • 2 weeks later...

Really need this sold soon, I know it is not a Ford Focus, a Nissan Almera, Skoda Felicia or something interesting like that but I thought it was autoshite gold!

I put it on car and classic for £500 had one email which did'nt go anywhere so will reduce the price on there to £300. I would be happy to let it go to a good home to someone on here for less than £300!

If there is still no interest by the end of the week I may have to do battle with e-bay which I don't to do.

It IS prime AS fodder and is more interesting that an Escort, Astra, or whatever, and by a country mile, too. Is it worth having a raffle for it and seeing how it goes? I'd certainly be up for a few tickets should it come to it.

Excuse my ignorance but how does the raffle thing work?

I mean I know how a raffle works, being a member of the Church of England they are part of every Christmas market. I think they are one of the 39 articles!! But how in this case does the raffle work and how does one set it up?

I am planning to take it to my garage on Tuesday to assess what would need doing for the MOT and what can be done for the exhaust, ie is it just a gasket or a problem with the manifold. Then I can give a clearer picture as to what needs doing although I don't think in terms of welding there would be much if anything underneath.

Basically people put their name down for numbers 1-59, when the list is filled you send them a PM with payment details.

These people then innocently donate the ticket price to yourself, normally via PayPal gift/friends and family so no fees.

You then have cash in hand for the asking price of the car and may then decide to give the car freely to someone from the list, using criteria of your choosing such as the bonus ball on the next lottery draw after all payments are in.

Basically though, say the word, name the ticket price, and it will pretty much just happen - most folk have entered several so we all know the drill.

Basically just make a list of numbers 1-59 (inclusive) add the price of a 'ticket' and people pay you by Paypal, or whatever. Once the numbers are filled (and you've been paid), it usually goes to the next draw (Weds or Sat) and whoever has the bonus ball number is the winner.

After a flurry of messages, I thought I'd utilise my new insurance companies online, 24/7, add any vehicle service.

No. Anything over 20 years old isn't covered. Supposed to be no restrictions except value (15k) or fibreglass, waste of bloody time. Good job I didn't drive the k reg astra I had in the other day!!
