worldofceri
Greetings shiteists. The time has come for me to let the Saab go... I bought it from jonathan_dyane of this parish early last year. Since then I've hooned around for about 6,000 miles and it's aced two mots (one rough wheel bearing excepted). It's rough and ready, but still goes like stink if provoked. Recently it's had...Four matching Firestone tyres;New exhaust from the manifold back;Aforementioned wheel bearing;Front shock (don't remember this but I seem to have a receipt...)Oil and filters and a coolant flush (well, I ran a hose through the rad for a bit.)OSR jacking point welded up as a precaution prior to last mot. It's got issues though.Severe vibration under load, especially over about 50mph - disappears on the overrun. Suspect gearbox bearing or possibly driveshafts.PAS fluid leak. I had to have the pump reattached after it fell off(!) on the M1. Since then it's leaked a bit. Marks it's territory but liveable with.Hot start problem. Makes filling up with fuel a lottery of embarrassment. Haven't touched the fuel filter or plugs so may be straightforward fix.Sometimes misfires at low revs under load. Again could be a simple vac leak or something. Haven't really investigated.Needs a coolant hose and maybe a header tank as there's a couple of small leaks.Exhaust is new but doesn't quite sit right - probably a badly fitting pattern part. Ideally needs taking off and sorting out with new rubbers.Manifold is cracked. Sounds a bit tractory... My garage think it might be possible to weld it up but would need to come off the car.Cosmetics:Looks alright from nine yards.Paintwork is a poor respray hiding newspaper and wob repairs.Doors are rusty;Bonnet is not rusty; No headlining but the rest of the interior is velouriously presentable; Some of the electrics work, some don't.I would like to fix it and keep it but Mrs_WoC's Golf nommed it's gearbox so I've had to shell out for that to be repaired. Plus, I have the roffle_Gooner to use and I really aught to dedicate my limited old-car-fixorage time and funds to the Beetle, which has just rolled over two years of being laid up. Shiters are very welcome to come round and kick the tyres, poke the rust. No obligations. I'm in Coventry. I would like £350. Derisory cash and ludicrous swap offers welcome. I may be able to deliver, but would caution against trying to drive it too far due to the vibration issue. At least without breakdown cover. Cheers, Ceri. Uncle Jimmy
Looks like a good project car for a punter on here; if I didn't have my wee 96 I'd be interested. I wonder if the vibration is down to a soft gearbox mount. Laseraligningfoofooflanges and madwelshman
Shep Shepherd
A car like that is probably the cheapest way into classic Saab 900 ownership these days. It would make a really good rolling preservation/restoration project, especially if the vibration and the hot starting problem are easily cured - I'd check the fuel pump relay first in the case of the latter Laseraligningfoofooflanges and madwelshman
The Moog
Definitely want this but missus has got a little upset about the number of cars. I need to find a way to make room. I do miss my 900 so much. This caused a yogurt explosion when I saw it madwelshman and worldofceri

jonathan_dyane
I loved this car, definately one of my top 3. In terms of the vibration my money would be on the inner driveshaft joints. The gearbox has already been rebuilt once! madwelshman
somewhatfoolish
Tempting; how spendy/unpossible(haynes book of lies spanner rating preferred) is gearbox surgical intervention to fixerate the suspected vibrating bits?
Mr_Bo11ox
probably best to actually diagnose the problem before suggesting how expensive/complicated it will be to fix it? Slartibartfast and The Moog

Richard
The normal cure is to swap the inner CV joints side for side. Uncle Jimmy and madwelshman

Inspector Morose
Tempting but collection would be interesting FPB7 DELIVERY SERVICE AVAILABLE. These things used to be my weapon of choice when I was doing an almost weekly commute from Wolverhampton to Belfast. Every one was sold on at over 200,000 miles with lots of life left in them. But not for me, this time. Stupidly cheap for a running one these days. If you only want one for raffle money, you can't afford to run one. dome and forddeliveryboy
worldofceri
...as I have found. Well, I can stomach the fuel bill, but the constant fettling not so much.
worldofceri
The normal cure is to swap the inner CV joints side for side.So I have read. I might get someone to do that for me, then brave Gumtree etc for a ton or two more. In the meantime I have a couple of swappage offers on the table, but not sure either could go ahead for various reasons. Roll up, come and get it while it's cheap! I think you mean:Tempting and collection would be interesting It's not so much the collection as the driving it home with it vibrating all the way that'd put me off. As lovely as this is i think it's better suited to someone who has the time to give it the attention it deserves. It would be a 3rd car for me and would have to wait for attention behind the Locost and the BMW which has an impending mid life upgrade. I'd be up for a few roffle tickets though... Bobthebeard
"Derisory cash and ludicrous swap offers welcome" As I delight in bringing old chod back to life, how derisory is derisory? Given the issues and the distance etc. £150?No... Ok..
worldofceri
Surprisingly enough, that's not the best offer I've had thus far! So, thank you Mr. Thebeard, but I shall have to graciously decline your derisory offer. Uncle Jimmy

It's a cracking car and I am fighting myself as I am close enough but don't have the time or space for another project, buts still want it.
