Delivering pizza in shite, wcpgw?

Just make sure you're insured for business use, coppers are very keen on it and wait outside takeaway places round here.

Then the cost of insuring it for business use will more than likely end up eating all of reb's wages.

Why? Coz insurance companies are cunts.

Thankfully once I'm clocked in I'm on their insurance, otherwise that would be an issue.

What's more likely to eat up all of my wages is industrial air freshener and half price pizza.

I worked with someone who used to do a bit of Pizza Delivering on the side (before becoming a taxi driver, so finding a council with no maximum age limit for Taxis is obviously your next port of call.

He reckoned it was quite a good job and popular with the local yooofs who were into their cars. It gave them an excuse to hang around in the evening showing off their Clio's and they earned some petrol / mod money at the same time, replace mod's for trips to the local breakers and you'll have better electrics than when you started!

At the other end he knew someone who pursued it as a career, and brought a brand new diesel smart car to do his 80 hours a week in. Madness in my eyes, but it worked for him to the extent last I heard he had purchased his second brand new Smart chopping the old one in at 3 years. Personally having had the dubious pleasure of driving a smart car, I think cleaning the toilets for 80 hours would be more fun.

Rather than running your own car into the ground, why not just (ab)use one of their scooters, let them deal with the running costs.

When I went from SDP&C to full business use on my Leon, the insurance went up from £490 to £496.

Even better if they're covering you though, billy bonus.

There's a certain "look" around the takeaway cars round here. Almost all of them Micras, not a straight panel between them.

I have to admit part of my reasons for doing it is to show off my immaculately* detailed* car, it does look quite good under streetlights, honest!

Amateurs deliver food in cars. Real men do it on one of those shite lifan scooter things.

The problem with the scooters is someone else has been abusing them, so in which ways they're fucked is an unknown quantity, at least with my car it's only me abusing it and I'm well aquainted with its fuckery.

Would also miss out on the 80p/£1.40 a delivery "fuel money" in cash at the end of the night.

A guy in Berwick delivers fast food in a 60s mustang, he said his wages just cover the fuel so he gets to drive around for free.

I used to do it for Pizza Hut and we had a guy that did it in a newish Mustang, he said that his wages didn't quite cover his fuel but he enjoyed driving it.

He got a miserable 206 1.4HDi before too long mind.

Interesting that someone mentioned taxis as we had a guy who had gone from being a taxi driver to delivering pizza as he reckoned that the taxi game was getting ridiculous - fares hadn't gone up for years but obviously fuel, insurance etc always do. That was in Wakey, may be more profitable elsewhere.

I delivered an a wide range of shite from the unsuitable to the even more unsuitable.

Started in an E28 525e - too juicy.

Then got a 1.0 Polo - hardly any better really.

Then got an Omega TD - this was GR12 as was running on veg but the injection pump died after about 2 months.

Then had a Berlingo van (1.7 n/a XUD) - the best so far, although I caused many problems running it on biodiesel - had to go home from work immediately after arriving once as the van was gentling seeping diesel into their car park from the pump main shaft seal (again.)

Overall it's a pretty wank job and I upgraded to doing deliveries for Sainsburys after that - better hours, wage, conditions, and you're not ruining your own car doing 20-30k a year in it.

I can think of worse things to do for a bit of extra cash, they largely involve being around far too many people for my liking. Hopefully if I keep on top of things I shouldn't kill the car too badly.

As a side note, it would appear that the word "wank" has caused the web filter at (proper) work to swoop in and stop me viewing this thread, without even giving me the override option. Strange nothing else has done it.

Was a manager for the shed like pizza delivery company for a while. Used to do my fair share of delivering either to help out or to train up new managers("Right it's a busy Saturday night, you run things whilst I fuck off out for an hour." Gave them a chance to run things without me looking over them)

My shite used included:

Saab 9000 Aero.

E34 BMW M5

Range Rover classic v8

Merc w124

Amongst other things.

You won't make a fortune but it is above board with the big companies so as long as your cars legal you'll be fine. You might enjoy yourself doing it too depending on what the other staff are like.

Dont do it. You rush round like a cunt for next to a pittance, cars get run into the ground and smashed up and if you have business cover there is still stipulations stating not covered for delivery or hire and reward.

I was worried about the business cover thing, if they weren't providing the cover I wouldn't go anywhere near it. It'll only be a few nights a week, so hopefully Pugsley won't end up too battered for it.

That's my thinking, a chance to make a few extra quid a week and have a laugh doing it, without the slight dodginess my last casual-ish job had about it. Can't be any worse than being a "self-employed" rickshaw rider, now there's a shit job.

It doesn't seem to cost me any extra, but mine excludes carrying goods, which I think would include delivering pizzas!

Business use

Courier use

Fast food delivery

Hire or reward

All businesses, but 4 different things when it comes to insurers. I used to be a motorcycle despatch rider. I was correctly insured and it subject to a 200% loading. Some other van drivers in the game used to declare themselves builders or gardens and have business use (cheaply) on their policies, but not the correct cover.

Whilst you may be RTA covered working for "Big Old Man's Pub Game Co", bear in mind the limitations of that cover such as "Occasional Business Use insurance for you while you are on duty (third party only)" So if it's your fault your own insurer is going to tell you where to go if you were delivering at the time - hence why it's probably better to run around in a pre-dented Micra.
