1995 'M' Citroen XM VSX Turbo Estate 2.0 Manual

This has been sitting around for nearly six months now, clearly I'm doing fuck all with it so it has to go (because I want to buy other shite and it's stopping me...).

I bought it on a whim via Ebay without truly knowing what condition it was in and it's come to the point where I'm probably not going to do anything with it as it is beyond my abilities and would be too expensive to just leave with a garage to sort. A shame as I really enjoyed driving it home and it's unusual styling is very much what I like.

The car has just under 130,000 miles, four or five owners and no MOT. I have three key fobs but one is missing the key blade part, the full V5 in my name and the most recent MOT fail sheet. Before falling by the wayside I think it was a well cared for car as the interior, while a few bits are loose, is in very good condition and one of the rear spheres looks to have been replaced within the last few years.

The MOT fail sheet can be seen in one of the photos. The tester exclaimed that it was "raining" oil from underneath but it didn't loose a drop on the 75 mile drive home and doesn't appear to have lost any since it has been sat since early April. Rust is the main issue followed by sticking steering and then a burst brake pipe. The engine doesn't seem to runparticularly smooth and the last time I started it there was some white smoke but it has been sat on grass without being run for quite a while so maybe condensation. The previous owner mentioned that it looses some coolant through the bottom radiator hose when the engine is hot and I did have to top it up at one point. Someone has put Radweld or some such in it to no avail and if I remember correctly the pipe is also wrapped in something as another attempt to stop the leak. I'll check on that when I go grab the battery. I think the nearside rear suspension sphere might need replaced also. The rear seat bases are loose for some reason.

Naturally being an XM there are various electrical gremlins; drivers window doesn't work, sunroof doesn't always work, passenger front window doesn't always work, driver seat takes a few clicks of the button to go forward, the blower motor doesn't always work, the right-rear door doesn't lock very often and the suspension lever won't go to the full low position.

Obviously it needs trailed but I may be able to arrange delivery to a collection point like Carlisle.

Included is a Haynes manual and a big bottle of fresh LHM. The car is located near Dumfries, South West Scotland. About 45 minutes from the M6 at Gretna Green. I have no idea what it's worth, far less than I paid for it most likely. I'll invite offers, that'll hurt less than coming up with a number.

Back in the day there was a garage in Manchester that would guarantee an mot pass providing an envelope was left in the glovebox with £30 in it (might have been only on a Sunday too).

I never used it but a lass at work did, she was skint at the time.

Ah the '90s.

That interior looks lovely, I wonder if the seats would fit in a Panda?

Tried to start this today and it kinda ran begrudgingly before dying a few times then refused to start at all. The fuel light came on last time I ran it so it may well be out of fuel, but I can't imagine the warning light means 'you're immediately about to run out pal, FYI'. Needs to go very soon as it's in the way now.

Strange request but they were quite local to me and haven't seen one of their plates or keyrings for years, any chance of a pic for nostalgic reasons?

I'm guessing they were a smaller independent affair, hardly the highest quality keying I've seen.

Edit: Fuck Photobucket. I did rotate the photos.

From memory they were in business from 1959, were Renault dealers from at least the 70s in Dalry and Kilmarnock, the Dalry branch became Citroen, then it was closed down, Renault was lost/dropped in Kilmarnock and became Citroen. They were dealers of Citroen until late 2002, when Citroen wanted them to move to a new build showroom in the recently developed retail park, they refused and remained independent until 2004 when they closed. Dalry branch buildings are still there as they were but it's a Factory Shop now. Kilmarnock branch was sold off and a Lidl store built on the site. They sold quite a lot of older cars for a franchised dealer, some interesting stuff like a Saxo VTS rally car, a Beelingo Multispace converted at the back into a pick up, and called a Multiwagon. Owner drove a Morgan Plus 8 from memory. The Citroen franchise was taken over by the dealer in Ayr who built a new Kilmarnock showroom.

I remember Mossgiel Garage in Ayr, there used to be a mint unmolested BX 16V owned by someone who worked there which I lusted after.

Mossgiel Garage became Alistair Fleming, they branched out into Kilmarnock as per what I mentioned above. Then took over the Citroen dealer in Dundee and added a Seat franchise. They sold out to TOM (large vehicle rental company based in Airdrie who also acquired Glen Henderson Caledonian Trucks Mercedes in Ayr) a couple of years ago, and the premises which was originally Mossgiel Garage was closed down by them just a few months ago and now lies empty with to let signs on it.

I remenber Dalry Motors very well. Had two sites in Killie. One on High Glencairn street the main one round the corner on East Shaw street. Ayrshire registered car as well which is unusal. Glasgow Dvla were remerkably relutant to issue Ayrshire marks for some reason. To Ayrshire garages anyway. Arnold Clark garages in and around Glasgow always seemed to get them. I cant in any way buy your car. I have a Montego with rusty rear arches sulking in my lock up and a Ital that is going to be reroofed very shortly. Sorry go luck with her though. I quite liked them in their day.
