53 Jag X Type diesel. Less than £500

Just dropped the Ignis off for suspension upgrades at friendly local independant garage.

He has a Xtype up for sale and Jags being flavour of the month, I thought I'd expose it here.

Mot history below to save you the bother.

I would suspect that haggling and folding notes being waved would move the price south, but thats not for me to decide.

Can get some interior pics when I pick up the Ignis if anyones interested.

Hes a good honest bloke and Ive had cars off him before.

Pm me for contact details.

How can you have a "slight fault" on a main beam switch............................

Ours had an intermittent fault on main beam, turns out the earth side is switched twice to work the twin lamps compared to the singles in the mondeo and the loom loops around under the dash to do it....and rubs through at the bulkhead. That was an interesting couple of days. I think the neighbours learnt some new words.

This looks ace. Mondeo blah blah blah. Still would.

For £500 you can't lose though, for that sort of cash so long as it starts and runs and stops, you could run it till April and throw it away. Who gives a shit if it'll want welding up in April, it'd break for what you've paid!!

I might be going against the AS spirit here but I prefer not to drive my cars when they have massive structural issues just 'cause the ticket is still on it ;):D

....and I can't say I've seen an X-type yet that didn't need welding!

X type - or "How to make a mondeo even worse."

Corrosion on one of these is no surprise when you consider what ford and jaguar know about rust protection is on a par with what I know about diplomacy.

Their combined input has levels of infamy not seen since Jimmy Saville and Rolf Harris did children's TV.

X type - or "How to make a mondeo even worse."

I've never warmed to the x-type for this reason.  I had a 2005 Mondeo - in fact my car "clock" seems to have stopped at 2005 as I have never bought anything newer.

Only actually 20% Mondeo according to the ever reliable* Wikipedia.

What people don't realise is my Mondeo (and presumably others) had Jag content.  When I had to change the front spring, I noticed the retainer for the front brake flexi was stamped with the Jag logo.

Duratorq, same as Mondeo I think.

Indeed - but also to be had with the 2.2 version (my Mondy had) later fitted to XF and Freelanders.

I had a 2008 auto 2.2 Diesel X-Type as a loaner when a woman who seemed to be using her FFRR as an office and was too busy to look out of the window rammed my XJ when I was stationary in a jam on the A42.

The X-Type was one of the worst cars I've ever driven - mostly because it was just so disappointing.

With all that said - £500 or less - what could go wrong?  Heated screen (presumably) for the winter.  Pre DPF dizzler for smoke bombing cyclists (not really obvs).

You'd have been fucked 20 years ago then...

Not necessarily rotten, it should have advisories if there's the beginning of serious corrosion. A tester wouldn't just pass it, he'd put it as an advisory unless he was willing to sacrifice his job for a back hander. Unlikely.

Indeed - it's a miracle I am still alive given the lack of structural integrity of many of the heaps I've driven.  As someone on here observed, the French don't give a shit about this in their MOT - a near neighbour of my folks there was patching up the floor of his Vespa (yes a 4 seater car - they even had a factory in France) with isopon - I expressed surpise that would pass the CT - he expressed surprise that it wouldn't pass ours.

Ok heres the story for those of you who like stories.

The owner spent £500 on the last MOT and promptly had a stroke (unrelated).

He can no longer drive. As friendly independent garage had always looked after it, they said they would try and sell it for him.

Its not been welded on the sills and doesnt need any (thats from his mouth to my ear and Ive not been lied to in the past.)

It has issues. Needs a tyre, theres a gouge in the front pass side and its pretty treadbald.

The car battery has been changed as it failed and the fob battery is dead so central locking not functioning.

When you open the door with the key, you get about 30 seconds to put the key in the ignition or the alarm goes off. Obviously it doesnt if you do. Behavior related to battery change or fob battery failure?

Said to drive really well, always looked after, taxed to drive home.

The death is said to be about £425 which might mean £400.

Wbac offer is £375 and thats where its going at the end of the month when the tax is up if it doesnt sell.

Its not my car, and Im not making any money out of it, just thought it might do someone a turn.
