Mercedes E300 Petrol

I bought this when I was having issues with my knees and needed an auto so I could continue to drive.

However I very rarely use it, so want it to go to someone that will have it as their daily driver, and I thought I'd put it up here before anywhere else.

It's an 89 model on a G plate, MOT until December. Lovely runner with a great straight 6 engine. Been serviced with new plugs, leads, distributor, rotor arm by a local mechanic, and an engine oil & filter change and gearbox oil change at a Mercedes independent in Stowmarket. Think its done 120,000 miles but will check.

It's finished in smoke silver (looks more like JRG to me though) with no rust on rear arches or front wings. Front wings have been replaced at some time as they are a slightly different shade. The interior is black leather which is in excellent condition. Has a Pioneer CD/MP3 head unit with USB port and iPhone socket on the front and bluetooth (seperate microphone neatly fitted). Great condition alloys with premium tyres fitted.

It does have a few issues which I put down to lack of use.
The interior fan does not work - it squealed badly on the drive home when I collected it, then stopped. Really needs replacing to make use of the air con which blew cold on that drive home.
Electric sun roof stopped working (opens and closes manually from the motors nut in the boot so it's not the cable)
Rear passenger window now not working.
Drivers door lock not working - central locking on passenger door and boot locks and unlocks all doors though

That's about it - oh, and it had an advisory for from jacking points being rusty on the MOT - A job I was going to get done if I could have found a decent welder locally.

I really have no idea what it is worth, but hate seeing it sat on the drive with little opportunity to be driven, so happy to get offers. I'll stick some photos on tomorrow.

I'm in Essex 20 minutes from the M11 junction 8 and 30 minutes from the M25 junction 28

Thinking of around £600 PBK but open to offers from those here before I have no option but to stick it on ebay. It really is a lovely thing to waft about in, and it will be a shame to see it go but it needs regular use. The use someone here could give it.

And another thing I've remembered-the electricky ariel does retract all the way or extend all the way, but it did until recently. You can hearrange the motor turning but I've notried had a look at it. No time to do so.......

Selling my Mercedes has generated more interest than I thought with more than a few PM's received.

I hate to disappoint anyone on this wonderful site, but I have provisionally sold the car here. I will know for definate on Thursday evening whether it has been sold or not.

I wish I could have four other identicall ones, so I wouldn't have to let all interested parties down.

Thanks

Fuelly gives an average of 24 mpg, so about the same as my Saab 9-5 and about 5 mpg more than the LS400 I had. Which I also regret I sold, as it was never used. As was my AMG body kitted (completed at the factory) 190E and probably half a dozen cars I have owned but rarely driven!!

Whoever buys it is a masochist in the extreme, and clearly enjoys "first name terms" with their local fuel attendant. These will barely scrape 18 around the doors.

Lovely old things though. Would.

Did. And guilty as charged.

A well sorted Mercedes is truly a glorious thing. I'll do a proper write up over the weekend, but I'm head over heels.

Thanks to JW for being the absolute perfect vendor. I've not only bought a car but gained a new friend. I'm grateful for both.

Just got home and its odd not seeing the car on my drive. It really wasn't doing it any good being parked up and it needs to be driven frequently.

Nice to have sold it to someone who will do just that. As I know anyone on here who expressed an interest in the car would have done. Look forward to reading the report to follow.

And good to make yet another friend on AS.

First of all, thanks to JW for being the absolute perfect seller.  He was so accommodating when I came to view, wasn't interested in rushing me into a deal, and went above and beyond to make it the smoothest transaction ever.  When I raised concern about a couple of areas of rust, he went and had the car MOT'd (gratis) to ensure the future of the car and that, above all, I wasn't disappointed. He then left the keys in the car, the V5 in the glovebox and trusted me to post the money through the door so that I could collect the car at my convenience rather than his.  On top of that, I couldn't withdraw enough money from the ATM on Friday so I still owe him £50.  None of this alarmed him in the slightest, and I couldn't be more grateful.

The car is really sublime to drive.  The flat six 3.0 engine is very lazy but so smooth with power on tap if you want it.  It makes such a musical sound, ranging from burble to warble to an absolute WOLF CRY at anything above 4,000 rpm.  It really is addictive!

Confession time.  The original plan was to buy the W124, smoke around in it for the winter, then rob the 15 hole wheels in the spring for my 190e and then sell the car.  However, one small problem has blown that idea to shit.  The 190e isn't even half the car this is.  So there's a man coming to look at the 190e tomorrow night, and hopefully he'll buy it.  The money from that will offset a lot of this year's expenditure, as well as give me some funds to attend to the trivial issues with this car.

So, I'm over the moon.  A well sorted Mercedes is truly a glorious thing indeed.

Thanks Col.

RIGHT.

Things have gone a bit 'Tits North' over the last couple of months for me.  At the moment I'm:

  1. Doing a 75 hour week
  2. About to get the 'heave ho' by Mrs B.I
  3. Suffering quite badly with my health

So I'm both physically and mentally de-cluttering at the moment.

Does anyone want to take this on?  It will free up some of my storage space to give the Sierra bASe a dry and warm hibernation space, and hopefully help me get my bloody life back on track.

It's exactly as I bought it, other than it's decided to start using a little bit of coolant.  Mercedes specialist who gave it a quick once over said NO HGF and NO waterpump- likely to be a hose or the rad.

It's a lovely old thing, and I will miss it very much.

Anyone?
