Ratdat
First Evel Knievil and now one of my all time heros, Art Arfons Arfons was the master of knocking up some old shite in his back shed with limited money and tools and then going out to break a land speed record in it. In the early 60's he battled with Craig breedlove for the land speed record and won it three times in a car that had cost him to about $10k to build in his shed. Breedloves corporately sponsored car stood him over quarter of a million. Arfons car didn't even have any plans...he just made it. He bought a jet engine from a scrap dealer, hung it up in his shed and made a car round it. He set the record at 576mph in that car and later survived crashing it at 610mph after a wheel bearing siezed! There aren't many men like this in the world any more. Ingenious, dedicated and fearless! RIP Art Arfons. You can read a bit more about the manHERE The dude who wrote this article wrote a book called "man against the salt" which is a cracking read. Well worth looking out for.
