mk1_4dr
Cross posted from the blue forum: There is a long-running thread on Pistonheads with many members trying to ID the car in the photograph below. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=1555306 There's been a few close guesses so far, but no-one's managed to tie it down yet. Any guesses?

mk1_4dr
That pic has been on here before but I can't remember what the result was Superb. It seems to have everyone stumped on the blue and pistonheads. I figured if anybody/anyplace was going to know about obscure, perhaps even homebrew 60s cars it would be here. Dave_Q
I remember the last thread on it but not enough to be able to search for it. The general consensus was that its a 50s or 60s fibreglass body special, but nobody could quite find a matching shell, or even be sure what its based on. mk1_4dr
Yeah, I said it was a GD/Ashley gullwing and was told otherwise. The Ashley gullwing seems hugely promising. As barrett alludes to in the previous thread, I suspect some of these home brew, hand made specials will be lost as memory fades and generation pass. Deeply sad but we'll probably never know the real story. dugong

dollywobbler
Ashley does seem to have been one of the top providers of plastic bodies for your ropey old saloon. Definitely nothing mainstream.

Squire_Dawson
Rochdale. The wheels are quite large, which would suggest it was based on an older chassis, Rochdale used Ford Pop(?) chassis. The wheel discs look like Ace-Mercury.

sierraman
Possibly a Ford Pop based Falcon sports car kit.
JeeExEll
It's the fibreglass Spock-eared Fuckington Mullet. It was made by Arthur McSocketset in his mum's kitchen. Based on a chassis made from an old bed it was pedal-powered and front wheel drive. Arthur used to cruise Laahndon picking up totty. In this pic he had no sooner dropped off the dollybird in white wearing the glasses when a tasty bird in red wanted in for a go. Arthur sadly expired when a gullwing door closed suddenly without warning and chopped his head off right at the neck. The story goes that his mum put the car to the council tip, but who knows??? Lord Sterling
Personally I reckon it's a Ford-based 'Special' grp car based on the Ford Popular. At that time the "Ford specials" were pretty popular using the side valve engines and a variety of grp bodies. It's broadly similar looking in proportions to this: Squire_Dawson and lesapandre
