Field of Dreams Open Day - Now with Today's pictures

Six-cylinder

Recommended Posts

If you promise it's dry I'll put both toolboxes and the boilersuit in the merc and will be up midmorning. I only work under instruction mind!

There is a Herald Convertible with a rear brake stuck on.

A Herald saloon that needs a hand repaint.

A Spitfire MK3 with a six cylinder engine that needs starting

The heater controls on my 2CV are stuck on hot

And enough jobs to keep everybody busy for a year, but only if you feel like it you could always just drink tea!

Here we go, another great day with the help from the team.

When I started getting stuff ready to take, I filled the C15 van and the thought was - was it worth it?

GoGently beavered away at the bonnet on the Herald, rubbing it down and painting it. It is a shame he did not put up a sign saying no insects to land here!

Richard Morris worked away on first my 2CV to make the heat controls work and then my 1st class travel 2CV!

Tiddly truck proved difficult. Its clutch was stuck and when freed, the C15 just could not tow start it, so we had to bring out the big guns!

Tea was drunk.

Quicksilver Senior worked tirelessly, first on Tiddly truck and then the scythe of death.

And a new get away driver was interviewed for our next bank heist!

It was worth it and here is my day in pictures.

Oh, and I meant to say to let me know when you get a new roof and I'll be happy to come up and play with it.

Today started with Quicksilver Senior checking the magneto for Tiddly truck and declaring the main winding a dead short, so that will need to go to a specialist.

Next the main aim of the day was to make the Triumph Spitfire MK3 with a 2.5 six cylinder engine run. I have owned the car over 3 years and it was non running when I bought it. I had been told it was running 3 years before I got it and there was nothing wrong with it.

Quicksilver Senior led the Spitfire project; he checked it was not seized, but the distributor and carbs were all furred up with no spark or fuel. He carefully took everything apart and cleaned it, found the immobilizer that was killing the ignition circuit, worked out the firing order and the engine burst into life.

What a moment! My friend who found the car for me could not believe I had found people who were prepared to do all this work on it. The fuel tank had stale fuel and water in it, so we ran it from a can and the tank is now out for me to clean. We could not try to move the car because the clutch master cylinder is seized, so that is the next job.

While the Spitfire was under way, Chodweaver worked on getting the green and white Herald pushable so we could get the Alfa Giulietta out ready for bodywork in a few weeks. One Herald wheel had to be changed and the other three just needed air, but I found the nearside front outrigger needs replacing, so that has slowed that project. The Alfa also turned out to have one wheel that would not pump up and we did not have a spare, so Chodweaver and AnthonyG removed a wheel, to have a new tyre put on it.

The Rover 114 GSi got exercised round the field, along with test driving of the Visa Twin and Diesel and more S1 Sovereign action - JAG! BLAG! SWAG! SLAG! FAG! LAG!

Visiting stars today were a Maxi, Chrysler Grand Voyager and Jaguar XKF.

AnthonyG gave me some car pictures to look at and Mrs 6C caught me with the one from Playboy 1978!

Again, many thanks to everybody who came over today.
