Started blacking up the sills, need to get some plastic primer for the plastic bits.

Filled door photobombing the picture,

In an effort to make it easier to spray i covered the whole front so had to brush paint the bit below the grill,

I quite like it like this, no spoiler and white instead of black behind the plate, reminds me of a 505 for some reason

I sanded the shit out of it, used orbital sander, no use, belt sander, left gouges, I was left with a block of wood and 80 sand paper, the red oxide was tough and layed on thick, I didn't want to spend all winter sanding it, took me about 30 hours all in, not worth doing anymore for a turd

A skim of filler and some paint and it'll look better than it did anyway. There's no point in spending hours and hours welding a car that no longer belongs to me for free. Nisfan is happy with how it has turned out and plans to continue filling and finishing it tomorrow.

it might be worth trying wet and dry with some water the next time as it doesn't clog the paper like dry sanding. it's also less messy as you don't end up with dust everywhere!

I figured they would be painted black or plastered with underseal so who gives a fuck?

The rest is done to a reasonable standard considering I did it for free, it was decent practice, I wouldn't want to take money for a job that I was pretty much using to practice my welding and bodywork skills.

I used 1.2mm thick wire to weld the repair panel on, I messed around with the machine settings as I welded it, The first blobs went on with low penetration so I upped the amps and tried again until It was fusing nicely and not blowing holes through the parent metal.

The welding looks pretty bad at this point but after using a cutting disc to dress the weld down it looked a bit better.

It still looked a bit lumpy at that point but after the filler was applied then sanded it started to really take shape.

I don't often put up photos of my car bodywork practice because there is usually someone there to comment that they don't think my welding is any good or whatever but I'm quite happy with the overall result and Nisfan is pleased too.

Many moons ago me and FOAD explored an old hospital that was also once a motor spares type shop, we found in a damp cellar a host of 80s car graphics many of them were knackered due to water but we manged to save a few, one of them was a roll of black stripes.

Im thinking of fitting these to the 18 and ive mocked up a picture of it, yay or nay?

Also in a swap i now regret i swapped the cavalier for a Volvo 340 'drift' car, its fitted with a 2.0 16v clio williams engine, Its stripped out doesnt run great and now the welded diff has shat the bed, all in all a bad move, its fast though!
