DaveDorson
Without doubt the best/most reliable Frontera of them all. They certainly seem to be the most robust choice, if a bit lacking in the gee gee department. Took it to see the folks earlier, and it was fairly happy at 55ish, bumbled along really well. Life's more pleasant when you're rushing less mind Cavcraft
TRW
Looks just like my old one that attempted to kill me on the M4 when the propshaft went.New underpants and new car were both required.Hope it serves you well.
DaveDorson
So what do you do when you've bought a car (which I need to point out is utterly brilliant and has totally surpassed expectations) which you know little of, which is on essentially road tyres... Why you take it to your local quarry for a play day of course! Pics will follow, but Fronteras are far better off road than I expected. obviously with no recovery gear or trailer and spare truck to tow it home with we were being reasonably careful on the old girl, but she climbs well! DaveDorson
Treated this to a new set of Bosch leads and NGK plugs over the last couple of days.. just about tipped 140k now , still doing its thing on and off the road, but I managed to snagged the exhaust on something the other day and it's banging around.. not sure if I've done any other damage to the system.. they're cheap enough though. Still enjoying it Bren, red5 and Jim Bell

DaveDorson
Well this has really been immensely reliable and helped me move house earlier this year. The MOT is due in Feb and it's going to want the hazards fixed as they don't work off the switch anymore. I suspect a relay as I see the voltage drop when I pop them on. It did act like it was overheating at the tail end of December, gauge into the upper echelons, but engine wasn't hot.. and I thought I had a case of OMGHGF but it's just fired up after two weeks of sitting with the battery still on there and run for 30 mins without having a fit or anything. It's stored on the land where my Mondeo is garaged. Oil on dipstick is still clean, there's no nasty in the coolant and it's not pressuring. I'm going to drop the coolant and change the thermostat one weekend. I had considered flogging it but thruth be told it's such a good and handy truck for me that I'm going to probably hang on to it and get another years ticket. It's remarkably clean body wise and underneath still.

DaveDorson
Haha. I knew you'd want a crack at it if I decided to flog it Cavcraft
red5
Haha. 1st dibs. How hot on gauge? Up to 3/4 is ok ish before fan cuts in. Check rad bottom for clogged up fins if you've been playing and not hosed rad off.
DaveDorson
it was reading in the upper quadrant, but was low on coolant.I suspect it's had an air lock, turning the heater off probably didn't help, and it was a cold AF day.The engine and hoses were still cool to touch, it may well have been a bad wire/sensor causing it to go off. The fan is viscous on this I think, and seems to be working OK. I'll break out the compression tester to ensure no damage.. And replace and flush coolant and ensure the rad is clear of all mud before I panic. Even if it needs a load doing, it's not exactly taxing is it? DaveDorson
Purchases made. Rear drums are on their way to my house now, so that needs to happen. Thermostat is also on its way to my house now, as is a few gallons of anti-freeze as I've run out.
Ian_Fearn
On the basis these were launched in ~1992 i reckon i must have been 10 when i walked into Pentagon Vauxhall in Derby and got the chance to sit in the new Frontera. I really thought it was awesome, the Sport especially. Two things have left a lasting impression on me. 1. The really cool side sticker (google ought to be ashamed of itself for not having a better selection of these in Images) and 2. The awesome seat fabric. My bedroom wallpaper at the time was very similar and I loved it. At the time my dad my dad had recently read something that said all 4x4s fall over and therefore bought an Astra. I think I would like to own one. Lacquer Peel
AlabamaShrimp
^^^^The indicator is on the wrong side on LHD? Wouldn't have thought they would have bothered changing it over. Does this normally happen on English/Japanese stuff when it's the other way?
DaveDorson
Does anyone want this before I re-MOT it and decide I'm keeping it for another 12 months? It's pretty much exactly as I bought it.. except the hazards don't operate (think it's a sticky relay) and there are now a pair of new rear drums in the boot that I've not fitted. No MOT, but I can leave it for weeks at a time and it never fails to start and run, can't imagine it'll need a lot other than the drums sorting out. Mr_Bo11ox
Maybe I have got low-level mental health issues but I always though the early SWB Fronteras look really cool. As said above the seat fabric, hardtop shape, wheel designs etc all add up and make it into something that’s a long way from the grim old Isuzu builders’ pickup truck that they are made out of. DaveDorson
I really like using the old truck to be honest. It reminds me of a slightly more civilised series landrover.
Cavcraft
Hypothetically speaking, how much would it be with a full MOT?
DaveDorson
Hypothetically speaking, how much would it be with a full MOT?Probably about £400, provided it didn't need a lot doing. UltraWomble and Cavcraft
DaveDorson
it IS solid as a rock underneath, the bolt on rear step is rotten and the tow bar electrics are iffy, but I'll have it "removed" for the MOT most likely to get it done. I never did replace the stat, as it never seemed to get hot again after the initial problems I had..

DaveDorson
Anyone want this before I put drums on, beat the relay for the hazards into submission and send it off for another years ticket then? Chances are MOT'd I'll end up keeping it. As it stands.. I don't expect to get my money out of it, but I'd like to chuck my brother back what he paid in and cover the new drums, so about £250. DaveDorson
As said, if I MOT it, chances are I'll keep it. It's the effort bit that's making me consider a sale. Cavcraft
DaveDorson
Quick update to say this is no longer under my custodian, but it's remained in the fold. I'll let the lucky new owner update with details if they see fit. Suffice to say after 18 months of sitting in a patch of brambles and being taken back by nature, it looked alright after we put a new battery on it and sparked it right up, then drove it onto the trailer.
