Yeah everyone who parks in that long line of parallel spaces kind of knows each other. Theres a guy who has a new Discovery which he says is made of quite thin aluminium and really susceptible to parking dings.

Overall I am satisfied with the way it is running and I think I can bring this project to a close for now and just drive it.

This.

Looks cracking, good job.

Small teething problem identified with the Corsa, the waterpump is weeping slightly although not enough to make a puddle on the ground or anything and it isnt making a noise.

No big deal, but I am working out whether it will get me to Crail on Sunday or not. I was just going to get a gasket and use the known good one from the old engine but the whole lot is only £28 and I can get it tonight. I haven't the appetite to change it this week so I just want to monitor it for now. I would rather be in the garden with a beer TBQF.

Otherwise its driving really well, and handles grand with the 'sports' suspension and new front Nankang tyres. Makes up for the 55bhp.

My goal was always to have the Corsa finished for the Crail Vauxhall Show and I made it there and back in the Corsa without fuss. I always attend this one as Crail has sentimental value to me. I used to go on holiday there as a kid from 1980 to 1989. Mine was sandwiched between 2 modern Corsa Ds

Also, I missed out on the white one back in January for £350. I was going to sack mine off for this but on close inspection today, mine is better bodily and underneath. However I nearly dropped my shopping when I saw that ITS ONLY A FLIPPING MERIT 4 SPEED!11!! Very rare indeed and proper bA5e!

Those are Irmscher Softstars, proper 'scene'!

There was a Sport model there which had 1 previous owner and 20,000 miles, totally standard. It was like new inside too!

I have been using this every day now (apart from 1 day where I drove the 75 post screwdriver in the belts) since it passed its MOT and has performed very well. Even in the hot weather today the temp guage barely moved which I was pleased about.

It does have a bit of an oil leak from the corner of the rocker cover gasket but thars pretty standard for an Ecotec so I will ignore. It also attempted to jettison its exhaust tonight as the one 'good' exhaust rubber (ie not cable tied) collapsed. The waterpump is still ok but a spare is on standby.

I love having it back on the road and it gets a fair bit of attention from one-time boy racers now in sensible grown up cars!

I was going to take the Corsa to the Scottish Performance Show tomorrow however it looks like the waterpump has other plans. There was a patch of coolant on the ground underneath. Gaaahh!

I have a replacement but its family time today so I'll fit it shroo the week.

Dug this out the garage again. I have had it for 13 years, its been very reliable but its somewhat invisible, being resale silver. It is very good at being a car and an excellent handling one at that but its still just a MK4 Astra. The Corsa gets a lot of attention now that people of a certain age are fondly* remember them as their first modified car but the Astra fits in nowhere and I am not looking forward to having it on the stand at all.

I think I might try a change of wheels or something...

It also goes into the garage Monday for a new timing belt as it was last changed out in 2014.

Mantaining my tradition of not shiting this summer so I can follow other hobbies, I am submitting this to my local garage for its quad-annual timing belt and waterpump change.

It did look nice at the show yesterday, IMO.

It was the Scottish Performance Show at Bo'ness. Bonus points for the Volvo Owners Club having a stand there.

All done now and cost less than expected.

The last belt assembly hummed right from when it was changed, no idea why, however quietness has been restored.
