Not sure about that. 19s are worthless, 9s/11s are worthless, 14s are worthless and nearly extinct. Shame.

I think that's a UK thing though, I reckon that old Renaults have more of a following in France perhaps.

For example, outside of here a Renault 9 is almost completely unknown and pretty much of curiosity value only but an Orion MK1 is quickly becoming scene.

You've spent more on that Megane in five months than I've spent on the Council Estate in five years. Thats a bit scary actually.

Ok I am changing the MOT to this week as there is an alarmingly loud intermittent groan from the suspension. It doesn't do it over bumps but instead when the road changes camber, coming out of a long corner and straightening up or pulling into the drive. It's actually very alarming, mainly because it takes you by surprise.

So I might as well get the MOT done and have this looked at together. It is exactly 1 month before the current MOT expiry so I'll get that added onto the new (hopefully!) MOT.

Funny thing happened too, unrelated. A family friend has owned an immaculate Opel Vectra B 2.2 Sport for many years and I've always wanted it. Genuine Opel from Ireland too, not modified. He is now selling it, it is affordable but I find myself, having always promised myself another Vectra B one day, now not really getting as excited about it and being glad of driving something that's not a Vauxhall.

Suspension top mount bush, perhaps?  Potentially a dry or under-lubricated shock perhaps, I'm just remembering the groan the front struts would make on the Xantia sometimes when doing the uppy-downy suspension thing.  You might get it to make the noise by jacking the car up on one side quite high to replicate road camber... you might not too, but it costs nothing to try.

The Ministry will shortly be issuing a Pass 😀

Only failed on a couple of bulbs with an advisory for a brake pipe and a tyre. Brake pipe treated for now.

For the low initial purchase price, even with what I've spent on it, I'd call that GREAT SUCCESS.

Going to source a couple of part worns on eBay.

I'm really pleased as now I have funds to buy the donor car for the Corsa engine replacement.

Almost certainly the osr damper. I'm getting used to it now and the part still functions for now!

Part worns make sense for me as I only do about 3k miles annually.

Definitely not buying budgets. There's a busy roundabout that I have to pull away quickly from near Croy every day. Tipper trucks use the road and as such it's always greasy and muddy. It has budgets on it now and it wheelspins like mad unless you pure nurse it off the line. Same happened with my Astra until I put Yokos on it.

This is still going well but I think the front brakes need attention.

There was an intermittent whistle coming from one of the front wheels when I got it but it went away for some time. Now it has returned but is a lower pitched noise. It goes away when you touch the brake pedal and isn't as prevalent when it's a wet day.

I think one of the calipers is a wee bit stuck. Bearing in mind that brakes are absolutely not my speciality (changing pads is my limit) is this a job for an amateur like me?

Having a look and cleaning up what is there most certainly is, depending on what you find after that is another matter.

Yep, you'll be fine. Just proceed as if you were going to change the pads but take the sliders out and clean them up. I'd usually CAREFULLY prise back the rubber seal on the piston too and check/clean/lube that. It'd be worth doing both sides at the same time.
