Noob question here but what are the sliders?

A through bolt that goes through the body of the caliper, usually about a 7mm hex. Give em a smear of Copperslip or ceratec.

Don't use copper grease on sliders. Ceratec much more suitable.

Good wee vid there Iain 👍

The Astra is a nice car, must've cost you a fortune back in the day because it would've been just 2 and a half years old when you got it? Any more mods planned for it?

I go through phases of liking and disliking Corsa Bs, would love to get an Arden Blue Sport or something and play around with it. If I had an Envoy I'd have to change the whole interior carpet and plastics to black ones, later Sport interior, rev counter dials, leather 3 spoke steering wheel because even base Corsas this late didn't have an airbag I'm sure? Speedlines or Softstars just because it's the law with Bs!!! Punto rear wiper, gloss black upper bumper trims and arches, smooth off the lock and handle, colour code the door handles, colour coded bumpers and mirrors, smoked tail lights, and central locking, electric windows and mirrors retrofit. I like yours though, would go well with an X14XE in it or even a later Z14XE or XEP.

Yeah the Astra was just a touch over 2 years old when I got it, still a new car to me even although it's 14 years old now. I've not modded it since 2011, I've taken it as far as I sensibly can without it looking barried or being completely unusable.

Re the Corsa, I went for the earlier SRi trim as it's more retro. It also has speedlines fitted. Again I'm trying to keep it sensible and not be a 'Corsa Wanker' © the Internet.

You certainly have a good vision of how a nice Corsa b should look though!

Less is more when it comes to older Vauxhalls I reckon. There was a time when I wanted a Corsa with the Vectra GSi style front bumper, angel eyes, big bodykit and filled with subwoofers and stuff like that but I was 19 and did cruises and was a bit of a boy racer and that was all the rage back then, now I much prefer OEM+ styling if modifying a car.

The early Corsa SRi interior trim looks identical to the trinity had in my mk3 Astra back in the day which is sure came from an Astra Cesaro.

I liked both the Irmscher airdam and the Corsa GSi bumper but now I just like the standard colour coded post 97 front bumpers fitted to the Sports and so on.

That said I'd love a caribic blue L, M, or N reg SRi with the black pre-97 bumpers too, wouldn't change one of them externally except for alloys over the standard wheel trims.

Scrapyard. They are the same on the Scenic. Sometimes at the factory they sprayed the schutz over the top, then the sills filled with water... needless to say this is why you see so many with rusty backs of sills.

Ironically I had some spare of these till recently, chucked them away thinking never use them.

Might be worth a try but I'm thinking the grommets will be just as bad as mine. For the sake of a few quid I think I'll just get some new ones.

IIRC they have a flap inside the grommet that eventually falls out. If in the event they turn out impossible to get, I'd silicone the flap back in then stab a hole in it to let any errant water out.

I dug this out a week ago to use again but only drove it on Monday. It was good to get out in it today. I took it in a longish run to my folks to help them with some work in the garden and it still drives very tightly, despite being 14 years old now. MOT is in 2 weeks, hopefully won't need much.

I still need to look at the Megane's brakes, I think new pads and some lunrication on the sliders is what I'll start with.

Corsa hasn't moved. It's in my garage awaiting the new engine, I'm hoping this will happen before the summer is out!

Good wee video there Iain! Like the Megane but not the wheel trims. Needs Renault trimz ;)

You sound like me Hen_lad. Was well into Max Power as a spotty thin teen. When I got my first Rover 827Si (as a slightly older, more tubby lad) it came with all the plastic bodykit etc... didn't do cruises, just used to cruise about with a TWR bodykitted Rover 827 with the growling V6 underneath. However, this was abkut the time OEM_ness started to come out.

Refitted a Mk1 bonnet, fitted proper Rover alloys, floor mats, etc...

Cheers Mo, no on the Renault trims sadly though, its £15 for a single used one on eBay so these will have to suffice as it's maintenance costs only on this car.

Right going to order pads for the Megane from my tame local motor factor today. HBOL says I need to renew the slider bolt. Where do I get these?

Most sets of pads come with the replacement bolt (depending on caliper type)

Ask the factors or shoogle the box when you collect- you should hear them

If they are anything like the Clio then it 'should' be a doddle.

Disks and pads were about 30 minutes.

Bolts don't come with the pads. I have to buy a whole caliper kit which is £38, plus pads at £11. It's a good price but at the wrong time. I'll get the Coupe through its mot first.

It'll probs be cheaper to just get the job done at a garage, if they can somehow get the bolts separately.

I might just try and grease the sliders first and see if that helps.

You won't need to replace the bolts or sliders, stick them in the vice and wire brush them down, then grease the sliders, you might need some new boots on the sliders but you can get these cheap. The job shouldn't take long per corner.

Are the brakes pulling to one side?

Are the discs ok? Give them a look over on the inside,

Where would I get those boot things? Brakes work perfectly, they're just humming once they get warm. Noise is 'nipped' quiet as soon as you lightly touch the pedal. More annoying than anything else.
