Was livable home and work but difficult if you went out of an evening and it froze.

Not if you'd had a few beers......

During the recent cold snap, I had some trouble with the 75s door latches freezing. This generally caused the door to fail to close again, instead just bouncing open.

As a result, the passenger door is now stuck shut but that job is for another day.

This morning I wanted to make sure that the drivers door didn't freeze any more.

Doorcard off:

There was a lot of condensation inside the void. No wonder it was freezing.

20181229_103016.jpg

I dried it as best I could, sprayed it liberally with WD 40 and slathered all the moving parts with lithium grease.

My son and I also disassembled and cleaned the electric window/ mirror module but the mirrors still dont adjust left and right.

The drivers window also no longer work. I can hear the regulator moving up and down inside but the window stays put. Again, a job for another day.

Hopefully I haven't spoken too soon, but it was icy this morning and I had no problems with the newly-lubricated driver's door this morning freezing open....

I also took a different route to work, avoiding the long descents on my usual route and the OSR brake shut up for the entire journey. When I get time I will strip and clean the slider pins and piston.

Full directional operation was restored to the electric mirrors by cleaning the contacts on the ORIGINAL printed circuit board. The faff of buying a fully non-working replacement was therefore a fools errand.

I'm still really enjoying the 75, it is  a very comfortable cruiser and whilst it's not to everyone's taste, I continue to be in love with the dashboard on these.

So unless the forum Red Bike becomes available again, or a nice Saab 9-5, I'm happy to keep it for now :)

Good job. Getting these door cards back on is fun*.

Shame the mirrors still don't adjust one of the ways. What you have done should fix it.

One of the greatest cockpits available on any daily driver fo sho. I do 100 miles a day and my happiest winter was the one in the 75; even the dials made you feel warm.

I still maintain these are fabulous cars. I reckon they’re best used as often as possible, so problems simply can’t be allowed to mount up.

My friend is off to buy the earliest known one this weekend. He is fanatical about the cars. I’m looking forward to seeing it parked next to his Tesla!

Mirrors all fixed :)

I found the easiest way was to remove the plastic central clips from the door, slide them onto the metal bracket on the doorcard, line it up at the top and give it a few swift thumps. It went back on no probs. All because I ignored the Haynes manual and stuck to the online guides.

This absolutely and its what makes me want to hold onto it. The interior was designed by a different person to the exterior but you wouldn't know it.

Don't think I've ever seen an S-plate 75 in the metal before.  I've seen a couple of T-platers around recently though.

Your spot on with the doorcards. I couldnt get the top of mine back on properly. Both fronts are lose at the top and look shite.

It was on the stand indeed and has been restored after a somewhat protracted period.

S 525OVP ?

Nope, earlier still.  It's the earliest RHD chassis known and the guy is heavily into them and has exhausted all avenues to disprove it.

S525 OVP (pictured) is chassis #1197.

There's another early survivor, #1194.

And the car my chum has agreed to buy "if it's as good as it as at the NEC" is #1157

The osr caliper on the 75 was beginning to bind a bit more than recently and I wanted to fix this before the snow_kaos lands later this month.

This morning was mild and windy and my wife and son had gone to Tesco.

Jacked up and wheel off. This exposed the dreaded rear upper arms which looked in solid condition. Quick win.

20190113_093139.jpg

The piston and sliders were pretty crusty. The guide pins were perfectly serviceable and just needed a clean.

The pads were OK

20190113_094049.jpg

I cleaned and greased the guide pins and descaled and greased the pad carriers.

All back together.

Before the job, I had to use considerable force to rotate the wheel. It now spins freely.

Hopefully this will be fixed!

Hopefully. Usually if the caliper seals were ok then the piston playing is probably intact.

The piston seal looked like it was still doing its job thankfully.
