A common Clio 2 rot spot is around the fuel filler flap. There is nothing to protect it from behind. The Coupe went here last year but the difference with this car is that the filler flap actually bolts to the affected area. It can rot to the point where the flap actually comes off in your hand. Mine is a bit grotty here but still solid. Ideally I would like to get a cut off from a scrap shell so that this can be fixed later down the line.

I have forgiven it for its climate control breakdown, just about.

The Coupe is back up for sale offsite, I wasn't prepared to let it go for as little as £900. All I have had so far are calls fron scam accident companies.

My Clio lived in a muddy field for 4 months being used as race car #becausemorons.... It certainly hasn't rotted around the filler cap.

Maybe a liberal coating of mud is the answer?

I took the Corsa to the Dumfries Motor Show today which was a round trip of 180 miles. It performed faultlessley and is actually pretty quiet and cruises fine at 65. It only used about 1/4 tank of fuel too!

As the price I wanted for my Astra Coupe was completely different to what it is actually worth I decided to keep it.

I am going to freshen it with new number plates (scabby), new wiper blades (rusty) and buy some new standard lights and sell the Morettes (fed up with the way they look and also worth quite decent coin).

As the lights are French and entirely NLA, one of the plugs at the back of the offside dipped beam disintegrated. As this plugged into the loom, both plugs had to be cut and hard wired. So I now need the plug, some wire and the sockets which go into the backs of the standard lights (not supplied). A brand new pair is only £50 from ebay so there doesn't seem much point in fannying about trying to polish up a second hand set with toothpaste or whatever. I have ohotographed the offside light unit and tried to show the bit of wiring and the plug I need.

The climate control on the Clio has also decided to be French, with the hot/cold flap partially shearing an adjustment cog on the stepper motor so the flap stuck on hot. Thankfully I managed to get it to set to a balanced 21 degrees so will just ignore this now.

The 172s screenwash reservoir was completely empty when I bought it so I got some decent stuff from Tesco yesterday. Looks like the resercoir is split as it had dumped the whole lot on the ground by the morning. Hopefully its not too much of an arse to change.

If it is the same as a 1.2 I can bring one to Scotoshite.

I will have to remove it first!

Am guessing the 1.2 tank only has one washer pump whereas the 172/182 has two pumps as the other pump is for the head light washers. It would neaten stuff up though if the headlight washers have been blanked off though.

Refilled it when I got home and its definitely a split reservoir. The water stayrd in long enough to confirm tjat the washers work however.

No idea why the pic is upside down, tried rotating it on my phone but to no avail.

Anyway, I saw this at a Classic Car Show today, identical to my old one in every respect.

I really, REALLY want another, which means trying again to shift the Astra Coupe on.

I have advertised it again for swaps or sale at £1200 but I am not holding my breath.

Yesterday afternoon (which was warm) got off the train from work and went to start the 172, however it turned over for some time before it fired. It was like it wanted to start, but took a while to catch, not unlike those cars in the You Tube 'cold start old start' videos. As such I am ruling out the TDC sensor. It also spun at the expected speed so I don't think there is an issue with the battery or alternator. I am thinking fueling perhaps? It otherwise drove fine.

My Grandads Laguna II petrol did exactly that. I cleaned the TDC sensor contacts and bent the pins out slightly on the sensor. Was fine after that.

The starting difficulties are worsening with this thing.

Since I have bought it I have:

-Discovered a coolant leak
-Possible PAS leak
-HVAC system has packed up
-Alarm has packed up
-stinks of richly burnt fuel
-Difficulty starting

The love for this has gone and as I am too honest, I will lose money on it.

The fact it's smelling like it's running rich immediately makes me point accusingly at the coolant temperature sensor.

Disconnect the alarm. Chuck some k seal in, give the PAS leak a wipe over then move it on through Gumtree.

Or do that and drive it until it blows up?

Polish it up and flog it. I polished up the caravan and let the buyer know the faults, he just repeated, this is really clean all the time. Some folk see past faults if its all shiny.

What's occuring here?
Possibly interested in knackered 172 for conversion purposes (body and interior mainly).

Would have to be affordably cheap though.
