purplebargeken
Someone please buy this before I am tempted (even though I can't/shouldn't/can't) My steam engine owning mate has bought this 75 saloon to sell on. The most recent owner was an elderly chap who has sadly developed dementia , He bought the car in July 2005 and was the second owner. The car was registered on 25/9/2002. It is Club specification - you get electric windows, PAS, electric mirrors, manual velour seats (dark grey, no rips/tears or burns) with manual adjustment. A cassette/radio and a normal rear view mirror. Ok, so it is no Connie but you can also view this as less to go wrong. The handbrake works perfectly You also get a very tidy Rover with alloys, good tyres (2 are new), new exhaust back box and middle section, plus a very lengthy MOT (20th June 2017). It also seems to have had a recent battery. As I said, the seats are lovely, comfy and supportive. The headlining is perfect, the door cards are also minty nice. The radio works perfectly and gives a really nice sound Mileage is currently at 139, 740 but is not likely to increase much, if at all. The colour is a lovely light blue metallic which really does suit the car. The engine is the BMW diesel and is as sweet as a nut, it just purrs along. The gearbox works without any issues and kickdown works well, there is the usual Sport and Economy switch for the gearbox. IIRC these are around the 115/130BHP but can be altered via a quick session with a T4 guru via the Rover 75 forum and is allegedly very worthwhile doing. There is a smattering of plastic wood in the car. I couldn't see any damaged pixels in the display. Temp gauge sits a tad below the mid-point and is rock steady. The car has A/C but I didn't get round to testing it. The heating system seemed to chuck out hot and cold air as required. I was a passenger in the car today as it had a decent run and there are no clunks, shudders or bumps in evidence as we made progress. It really was a lovely drive, possibly the best one I have been in so far! Negatives? Not too many. Being an elderly owner, the old boy has picked up scuffs and scrapes on the rear bumper and also on the front bumper, O/S IIRC. There is a small but noticeable ding in the drivers door which might be rectifiable via one of these dent companies, or buy getting another door if that is more cost effective perhaps. The sill ends appears nice and solid but do have some surface rust in evidence. I think the front N/S fog light lens might be damaged but not 100% sure. The plenum drains contain leaves but I will make sure these are cleared out, they do not appear to be fishtank-like. Alloys look tidy but they do have scuffing/curbing here and there. Not sure if the spare is a space-saver or full size. The car is not mine (sadly) and is based in Crews Hill/Enfield, just off the M25/J25. BR station is 5 mins down the road. PM me if you have interest and I will give you my mates details. He is a sound and honest bloke. Price? Around the £625 mark but there is some wriggle room Piccies to follow shortly. oldcars

EssDeeWon
Should the temperature gauge sit below half way though? Might need to run it using the onboard digital temp gauge, could be a tad cool and need a stat. To get these below half way you need to be running at less than 70*c - Fairly simple to do on these BMW lumps I believe? where as the KV6 is right PITA. I think Shumarialto had similar on his diesel recently. oldcars
purplebargeken
God knows about the BMW engines mate, 'cos I don't. Could you remind me of the code to press, I can't remember it now
AMC Rebel
Stat is bloody inaccessible. Standard dodge is to fit a renner 5 one in the top hose iirc. Not as wanky as the kv6 housing - but still hard to get to.
AMC Rebel
I think it's 19 then 7 from memory purplebargeken

purplebargeken
Just had a peek at the R75 forum, 'I had stated to read on the forum about the thermostat and my temp gauge rarely gets above 1/4 to 3/8.This seems a common problem of the thermostat getting a bit lazy and not closing fully'. There is a 'how to do it' bit on the forum, it's fiddly and a ratchet torx e8 spanner is described as very useful. However, as also mentioned above, you could just do this for not much money: https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/products/rover-75-mg-zt-cdti-inline-thermostat-89-degrees Video:
purplebargeken
I've just spoken to my mate and he said that the temp guage reading varies between just under halfway to halfway and on a decent run or around town it goes to the halfway mark
oldcars
It is lovely, shame about that silly little dent/ding in the door.Depending on the dent that's only about £40 for a good pdr to remove. purplebargeken

purplebargeken
There is wear on the steering wheel, the OC do refurb kits which are not pricey and give excellent results. Door dent Sills So, there you go. I think the colour is gorgeous and really suits the car. I've shown the worst bits and they are not the end of the world. The car drives very, very well indeed. If I wasn't trimming down then I would already have the V5C in my name strangeangel and Brodders

Brodders
That is very nice. Loads of people I know have been making nice noises about my new 75 and some of them have said they may be considering one for their next purchase, even though I received a fair share of piss taking from most of them when I said I was getting another Rover. Unenlightened heathens. Anyway, if they do actually want one, and it isn't all bullshit, I will point them this way, it will add a bit of class to the car park. purplebargeken

Only if you include a kidney, your house and maybe some other valuable assets An AX would suit you much better Honestly, it would. EssDeeWon
That looks lovely. Nearly all 75's I see are always scraped on the 4 corners, mine has the same, quite badly on the front NS. Giffer parking skilz perhaps? And I spot a Bedford CF truck in the background
purplebargeken
Yep giffer induced. Bedford CF2 petrol engined, quite tidy, minimal grot - also for sale!

purplebargeken
Just tidied up a little more in the 'cabin'. I checked the boot, it seems lovely and dry. There is a space saver wheel sitting in the boot, the wheel changing kit is still there as is the locking wheel nut tool. oldcars
