First spots for '09 2nd Update

Pickings are still pretty slim in this part of the world, but I've accumulated enough mildly interesting stuff to post, so here goes!

Starting with a nice little Nova Swing in the local Supermarket. A little scabby in places, but nicely unmolested.

Posted Image

A completely non-scene Beetle resident in a street close to where I work.

Posted Image

Whilst this is in the work's car park

Posted Image

There seems to be an un-naturally high concentration of Minis around here- this one at the local Gymn

Posted Image

Whilst this one is lurking down the end of a cul-de-sac, and doesn't seem to have turned a (Cosmic?) wheel in months

Posted Image

I see this beauty most mornings on my way to work... and notice the blue roof JUST visible beyond it?

Posted Image

Well, it's this wonderful thing, which hasn't moved since it first appeared MONTHS ago!

Posted Image

Another thing of beauty, which we spotted cruising along the M18 a few weeks ago, driven by a youth in full '50s gear/hairstyle:

Posted Image

Visited my folks in Leeds at the weekend, and went into Otley on Saturday, which produced more shite sightings than the previous 3 months in Sheffield!! Managed to miss a "lovely" hearing-aid beige, D reg Maestro, driven by an exceedingly ancient chap, coz it passed us going the other way  However, did get these:-

Not really shite, but nice to see out in the sunshine

Posted Image

Very tidy Corolla. These do seem to last well.

Posted Image

Not QUITE so tidy Astra.

Posted Image

Lovely Saab 900 XS

Posted Image

Gorgeous Bedford Camper.

Posted Image

Not very gorgeous, but stunningly shitey, Transit Camper

Posted Image

And finally, this mint-looking Acclaim. Would've got a much better pic if it weren't for the biker, who queue-jumped right in front of me at the traffic lights as I was taking the shot.

Posted Image

Almost missed it again as it drove past.

I pass that on my way to work some mornings, it's been for sale for a couple of months now. It is a thing of great beauty and no mistake.

Um, is that '66 Super Minx going to be OK? Exactly the sort of heritage we don't want to see going for Scrappage! :(

Well, it appeared in the drive sometime last year (forget when exactly) and hasn't moved, or been touched, since. So, I would guess it's someone's future project, though to be honest it looks like it's not going to be a quick fix!!

Got a day off work today, so decided to have a look round some of the streets around here that I've not explored, and in the space of an hour I found these- nothing Earth-shattering, but it does show that if you look for it, the shite's out there!

Another of the surprisingly high number of "real" Minis around here. I don't have the amazing, encyclpedic knowlege of when things were in production that some on here possess, but doesn't N reg make this a late one?

Posted Image

French shite #1. That headlight must make night driving rather interesting!

Posted Image

French shite #2. Sadly, what you can't see, is the grey 2CV in pieces that's parked next to it. Just about impossible to photograph without actually trespassing!

Posted Image

As was this- sorry for crappy pic, but couldn't do any better without getting into the garden!

Posted Image

A woman in a passing car clocked me taking this, and looked at me VERY suspiciously. Think she may have noted down my reg No!

Posted Image

I've seen this around and about for a while- know where it lives now!!

Posted Image

Finally, was kinda surprised to find these 2, both E reg, within a mile or two of each other.

Bluebird looks very clean, but then they rarely do get tatty unless abused. I also saw a D-reg hatch this week, to be seen on my thread at some point.Odd wheelbase on the first Transit, or is it just the single rear wheels on a long one that make it look peculiar? Funny how later on the rear wheels ended up right near the back on the bigger Transits.Regarding the Fiesta spot, perhaps the woman's suspicious glare was simply her disapproval on a Mk2 tailgate being fitted to a Mk1.Think I saw an S-plate old Mini this morning, I've a feeling they do go newer but I don't take massive interest in them.BTW, I saw an interesting Sheffield spot back in January from a brief visit there. I got a lousy phone camera shot, but I could PM you the location...

Neither do I, and I know that sales really tailed off once the new one was known to be on the horizon, but I'm sure I've seen both a Y-reg Bini Cooper and a 51-reg Old Mini Cooper. Next to each other, at a Mini show...

Just a few more from a quick trip out today:

Yet another Mini- with a reg No that no-doubt has some deep significance. Shame the plate and the font just look wrong!!

Posted Image

See this old thing around quite a lot

Posted Image

complete with magnificently shitty "repair" to the rear arch, with duct-tape

Posted Image

This lovely old Daimler was in a pub car park- possibly the sunshine has fetched it out for the 1st run of the year?

I think Ford stopped producing mark 1 tailgates soon after the mark 2 was launched.Any mark 1 that got a shunt would come back from the bodyshop with the "wrong" tailgate. They do look odd without the reverse lights of the mark 2 though dont they?

Ah, that'd explain things. Used to see Mk2'd Mk1s all over the place in the Eighties!

Ha, I'd completely forgotten that phenomenon. You're right - used to see loads as a kid. Can't be many left like that now.

Well, just a few more recent sightings to add:-

Phase 1 Renner 21- might be a Monacco going by the colour.

Posted Image

Tidy Golf

Posted Image

The same Corrado pictured earlier, but now looking even better on new wheels

Posted Image

Humber Sceptre, I think, on what look like Mk 3 Cortine 2000E wheels with beauty rings. Something odd about it's rear ride hight too.

My other half and I have recently upgraded our mobile 'phones, and now have cameras in them!! Woohoo!! On several occasions before, she'd said to me, "If only I had a 'phone with a camera in it, coz I saw a lovely ......... today." So, I present a few pics she's taken since she got the new 'phone:-

Veedub bus. Looks like it's been lowered.

Wow, half way through the year already!! How did that happen? Anyway, here's a few more spots- some taken with the 'phone, some with the camera:

Lovely big old Audi. Not seen one for ages!

I was amazed to see this tidy Toledo in the local supermarket carpark.

Posted Image

nother VERY unlikely grocery-getter, also in the supermarket car park!

Posted Image

Rear wheel totally devoid of any form of suspension- must be a real back-breaker!

Posted Image

Imaculate Volvo 940

who's owner also has a 960

Posted Image

Beautiful VW seen in a pub carpark

Posted Image

Nice old Landy should please a few on here

Best recent spot is this Capri, found as a result of taking a wrong turn on the way back from a trip out the other day.

Might have 'modern' alloys on it, but I reckon a 25 would still be fairly comfortable.. surely have a fairly big boot for all the supermarket fodder too? ;)

Actually looking at that pic your(?) 25 does seem a bit low at the back (compared to front), is it just the deceptive angle or is it like that? Not seen a 25 on the road for a while but there's a 21 I atleast onve a week - always looks high at the back end, almost awkwardly so.

I know, it's a bit odd really. Had new shocks all round a while ago, and ever since it's looked lower at the back than at the front, but the sills are totally level with the ground, and the front wheel arch clearance is the same as it always was- which has always looked too much! I really think that, aesthetically at least, it'd benefit ftom having the front lowered a couple of inches.
