Remember this the Trigger John Wilsonx2 sierra,

post-3747-0-37645200-1459718988_thumb.jpg

Sunny April was here so I promptly taxed the old gal and today decided to take it for a hurl since it was full of pez, It is a lovely driving car but by hell its gutless, now since driving it home I have been fighting the sensible side of my brain that is saying leave it the fuck alone but the boy racer side is saying give it more grunt, oh what to do.

anyhoo after a 25 mile jaunt I pulled into a mates yard and the damn exhaust only decided it didn't like being suspended under an English ford and made a break for freeeeduummm

we stuck it on the lift and apart from the exhaust the underside is pretty damn good, I cut the remaining exhaust flush and slipped on a straight length of spare exhaust to keep hot gasses away from the driveshaft cv joint,

After many coffees and much talk of old fords I left for home and the damn car actually goes much better,

now I am stuck as I don't want to waste money sticking a new zaust on the car as I am not sure I want to keep it cvh powered, maybe I should just sell it and buy a pinto powered one instead.

what say the Autoshite massive,

This place is fast starting look like the Sierra owners forum! That's a good thing!

Very nice car, in my opinion the CVH is fine in an Escort or Fiesta but it's not a RWD engine. So, if the body is good and rust free then I'd say if you feel the way you do then change it to a 2.0 pinto. Much much better.

Or you could go a bit boy racer on this theme with an upgraded 2.1 pinto with go faster mods? Not necessarily cheap but definitely quicker and more powerfull.

Or maybe go for a 2.0 'twink' twin cam engine which was fitted to Sierra's and Granada's of this era?

Nowt wrong with doing any of this in my opinion if the body etc is good enough to be worth it. I don't think it'll be very hard to actually do any of this either, it is a Ford after all and they aren't exactly known for being difficult to work on!?

It will be a shame to see it's changed but less than a year ago it was due to be scrapped so the fact it's got this far is very pleasing, I gave Type 9 money for it thinking if the worse came then i can get my money back, after many weekends it ended up being transformed into a decent car, but it was gutless and kept running like shit on me so i lost the love rather quickly.

I spoke to my mates about zetecing it but it sounded like a right faff to do so didn't bother, I think with the right engine it could be a better car.

OMG we've gone all retro rides again! Similar to what trigger said and don't change anything!

Look at it this way. There's a red low spec Sierra. You get it and don't like that grill, seats are a bit shit, could do with more power and before you know it a unique car is just the same as the rest.

It's lasted a long time as it is. I don't get what all this need for 'more power' is as there's speed limits on everything and tons of traffic and I know it counts for noting but it devalues them to the degree where they won't sell.

On the other hand it was going to get scrapped a year ago and it is yours so ultimately it's up to you

The need for more power comes from the fact it doesn't like to accelerate and by the time your up to 60 then you have to slow down again and then the cycle repeats, I know 60 is not a target but driving around at 40 is not for me, at least not till I'm 70 anyway.

If you don't like it then there's two options

1 you can stay clear of this thread and all my other fix it threads.

2 I can stop posting about it here.

ST170 Zetec lump. CVH Sierras were always gutless and you've already got the bell housing and sump to fit the Zetec.

More power than a Pinto with less vibration. Win win.

If I'd had a few more quid when I had the Escort I'd have bought this Sierra just for the box, bellhousing and sump.

What the fuck!

You ask for opinions and when you get one different from what you think you get a shit on? As I said I honestly don't give a shit what you do with it as it's your car but there's no need for any attitude like that.

I can also see this valid side of the argument, i think what the op's angle is he isn't keeping up with BMW and audi drivers, i am guilty for making "improvements" to cars and can say it becomes a slippery slope to which there can be a point of no return as with drivability for daily use is concerned
