The Autoshite holy grail is now one of us!

I'm not sure who you're accusing of wanky prejudice. We're just saying it's overpriced. If you want to pay that for it, knock yourself out pal.

I don't want a Ford Sierra. I just find it funny people think everyone after an old Ford is gonna ruin it.

Tbf, I didn't know the very first Sierras were grey grilled - must be one of the earliest left in the wild, shirley?

The Bumtree advert shouts of excitable grandson trying to sell grandad's classic Ford. Not sure if 20 years of whooping is an ailment I'd wish on anyone...

"Was sold to its second owner in 1984 who had it for a whooping 20 years"

"Bodywork as u can see is tatty and abit rusty (owner is a really old man) the interior: the front seats are like new (were always covered) the rear seats have a mark and a rip. The dashboard has seen much better days and is a wreck and door cards are peeling but other then that its a rocking live car and fun to drive"

And the ultimate* selling point:

"Im sure many parts can be used aswell for the RS500 xr4 xr4x4 etc this is a proper ford classic"

Needs saving though.

It's funny you should say that as I've been fighting the sensible side of my brain on modifying this ex trigger john wilsonx2* cvh sierra

*sorry if I've missed anyone out.

I'll turn my 'wanky' RS Ford prejudices off when others turn off their equally wanky Vauxhall prejudices off. Until that day, which will be never, they shall remain.

Still think it will be ruined but no point in me complaining as I'm hardly stepping up with my £995. Would if I could though!

Hard to see what was so radical about these cars when new. Just another utterly conventional, boring Ford.

twas the handling and drive according to the auto journo's of the time, that and the jelly mould shape - I'm no fan, but I have had a couple of the older ones many years ago, and they did what  they were supposed to without fuss.

I did have a chocolate brown 1.3 (I think) which I part-ex'ed for a reliant Scimitar SE5a down the dodgy used car sales in Beeston, Leeds, and thereafter received several early morning visits from the Plod enquiring as to whether I was using it as a get away vehicle from armed blags!!!

What makes this even more amazing was I got shut as it seemed to have dropped a valve or similar, and was running like a proper dog

having said that, I had a Cavalier 1.6 of similar vintage which was a rot box, which drove very nicely too - it did not escape the crusher due to said tinworm, moral of the tale, not sure to be honest :-P

Any car, no matter how crap it actually is, if it was 'iconic' in it's day and is rare now, will be desirable one day.

My mate Michael used to use his Mums 1.6L Sierra, B459NMS, same colour as this back in the late 1990s and another mate Chris used an almost identical one that belonged to his dad, who was big into kit cars. It had 2 badly rattle canned doors.

As such, fondly remembered by me and no doubt many others.

look at the cars made before, look at those after. It was truly revolutionary at the time, but then many cars have been over the years. I turned one down for free a couple of years back as I had a lack of space at the time and have regretted it ever since. Very few left now and I am just about managing to resist the auto on here at the moment.

Ford have done this a lot over the years. The Focus looks ordinary now - but at the time, the interior and exterior design was seriously radical. Ford at the time was riding high in sales charts with the Cortina. The Sierra was so radical that it was a slow seller at first as it was too different looking.

Also hilarious reading people criticising it at the time for sticking with rwd - the very thing that's made BMW the darlings of the industry for so long.

I am old enough to remember when these came out and the grey grilled models were a rare enough site then given that grill pointed to your obvious minge baggery. Couldn't even stretch to an L? flipping peasant.

I bet a few got colour colour coded too. It's amazing it's survived really.

a grand, A GRAND, for some shonky old heap, the sierra was never cool or anything other than the cossie , even the 4i was never that rated, why you would want to spend a grand on a battered fcuked heap of a four door is plain lunacy, plenty of better 80s cars about for half that in a1 condition for sale, i do not understand the ford fanboy tax that gets slapped on cars that were an absolute piece of shit within a few years of  coming out.

I've seen really tidy late 80s early 90s low mile cars with decent spec n engines get shunned for peanuts, and then this battered worthless bucket comes up, and people put the rose tinted glasses on and get moist over a ton n a bit lump of chewed bubblegum, that isn't worth a wank, and guaranteed to make you an outcast in your community.

Lol. Give it a rest man!

What do you expect? Are we only allowed to like high-spec, big engined tidy cars only or what?

Yeah, it's a bit over priced and a bit battered, but this grim-spec Sierra is a hell of a lot rarer than the usual yawn-fest high-spec/big engined/sporty/so-called 'cool' popular cars. Though I'm with you on the OSF tax, some marques get them, others don't.

I'm not convinced you still quite get Autoshite. It's one thing to have an opinion, not everyone would like it which is fair enough but it's another to tell us that we're all "loonies" or what have you for liking a miserable-specced battered old Ford.

Whether someone wants to spend near £1k on an old battered but otherwise very rare Ford ain't no one elses business but thiers.

I'm pretty sure he only tends to come on here to moan and to be all lascivious over the 'women thread'.

If cars were valued on how good they were as cars, the Mini would be free with a box of cornflakes. Stuff finds it's own value, the Sierra was OK in the whole and groundbreaking at launch.

Maybe Old School Fords aren't as good as people make out, but they are a part of history and it's nice to preserve examples. And if Steve, a 38 year old team leader for Gloucester who has just come into a bit of money off the back of Uncle Wilf kicking the bucket, wants to blow £22k on a Cossie or £5k on an XR3i or £1000 on a wreck of a Sierra just like his dad had, then fucking let him. I'd rather see this at a show than many sportscars.

agree entirel, except that a mini would cost a fortune and ferraris would be free. Cost a fortune, unreliable, shite build quality, actually apart from the first one ferrarris would fit in well on here! The mini is an amazing design, space for four adults and their luggage (mostly) and amazing fun to drive. My 998 was faster than a 911 turbo (with A008s on, a shit load of suspension mods and over one and half miles with four roundabouts including three right turns, several tight turns, but still faster)

I really really really want that! Badly.

I'd pay the asking price too, and leave it exactly as it is.

In fact if I had room I'd buy phone the guy and buy it right now.

I don't get the old Ford hating. They were good cars for the masses, nothing particularly exceptional in most cases but good affordable cars. They certainly sold well in their day anyway.

I've been into old Fords before they were 'cool' and got scene taxed and absolutely love them. The closer to standard the better. I'd rather see a bog standard Escort 1100 mk1 than some trumped up RS or rally replica but each to their own.

Somebody please buy it so we can have it as the Autoshite mascot car.

no I'm a lover of old british tat, but surely autoshite should be about driving the best examples of old shit they can find, the thing i find with most people who run old knackers, is the fact they buy the very worst cared for example of a car thats had no money spent on it, buy it, try to run it on buttons, then when it goes wrong which is most of the time, they then say the usual "fucking piece of shit", don't know why everybody raves on about vw, mines a piece of shit, maybe if people didn't buy the biggest bag of bollox they could find, and actually bought a better cared for example then they might get some enjoyment of driving said old shitbox, but i just find it weird that some guys on here buy absolute fucked heaps for half what a nice one is, then spend the same again on heap to get it fairly drivable only to still be left with a drivable fucked shitbox, worth fuck all, then after 10 minutes of attention on here sell it for fuck all, and go and buy another shed and do it all over again cos their bored with the car they have had for ten minutes.

this is a great site and it would be better if the quality of old shit was brought up a bit to include nicer examples more than the usual fucked old 205s run on veg oil which no one gives a fuck about anymore, id like to see someone find a nice 205 dizzler, and actually put some actual deasel in the damn thing, and get it so its worth looking at, all these battered old shitboxes on here i see in asda in my town and generally they are driven by people who the biggest fucknuggets you'd never want to meet.

lately its more scrapyard challenge than old shite, i can understand some guys don't have much spare cash, but when you invest in some of the crocks of shit I've seen posted on here, do you ever wonder why you've got no money.
