Slight progress, it's now in the workshop awaiting further attention, I've ordered an exhaust from ebay and tomorrow I'll whip the wheels off to see what state the brakes are in.

A new battery turned up today which was nice, as I hadn't ordered one, only enquired about prices...

Ok so we begin on the hard work, first up it's time to check out the cambelt, as there is no history for it having been changed, @Nyphur I'll grab as many pictures as I can here for you incase it helps with the Colt!

First, the top cover must come off so the belt can be inspected, I know the belt was due at 54k and the truck was serviced at 50k and didn't have the belt done then. To start slacken the bolts on the PAS pump and remove the clamp for the pipe, push it towards the engine and tighten one of the bolts. Remove the PAS belt.

Crack the bolts on the water pump pulley at this point, or they will be a pain to get off later.

There are 3 bolts holding the top belt cover on, you can see here roughly where they are:

This is the original belt, it is now so slack that I could probably remove it without taking the tensioner off!

Next I've undone the mounting bolts for the alternator and loosened the tensioner enough to release it from the bracket, same trick as the PAS pump, push it towards the engine and nip one of the bolts up, remove the alternator belt and then the water pump pulley.

Thus concluded today's 30min lunchbreak, this is how the truck looks now:

Oh and the front pads are knackered.

I've been pretty lax with the updates haven't I? Sorry!

So this is my first peek at the cambelt;

It was so slack it could almost be removed without slackening the tensioner off. Notice also I have removed the engine mount & PAS pump to allow for access, I also had to remove the PAS mounting bracket to get at and replace the leaking water pump.

End of day Tuesday:

Important pics for Nyphur; the autodata book isn't very helpful with the timing marks, but the pin sticking out of the crankshaft sprocket here should line up with the arrow cast into the block:

post-2711-0-14017600-1460665790_thumb.jpg

And at the camshaft end, the arrow on the cam sprocket points to the casting on the head (I used a mirror to check this, it doesn't look right unless you look straight at it!)

New belt, tensioner and bastard spring fitted;

Moving on to other jobs, the battery was knackered, and the terminals on the truck were, well, shit. The negative was jambed on with a washer and the positive was loose even with the bolt fully tightened. New terminals fitted to shortened cables:

Engine back in one piece, it runs but I've yet to have it up to working temperature as the exhaust still needs changing.

Also today I had the rear drums off and both the cylinders are leaking. Deep fried joy on toast.

Well the parts I got from the yard worked out as free in the end thanks to that, I put it on ebay and it sold within 10 minutes, I hope you don't think I was purely after profiteering, I always try and grab some things that I think I can sell on after yard visit because the one here tends to be a bit ambitious on price, meaning I have to work harder at getting a reasonable deal from things.

As I couldn't find anyone else selling a towing eye cover, I priced it the same as the last Ax Gt one I sold, which are now similarly rare.

Blimeh, it'd be interesting to see if that sells for anywhere near that money!

Mine was pressed into service today and performed just fine, I recently binned off the Chinese stereo it came with because, well because it was shit. It's now got a double din Pioneer that I bought for £40 instead, it's a bit flashy but much better quality than the old one.

Well after a successful outing to shitefest, the little truck that could started to get a little awkward with the gear changes, and by the time I'd gotten to Peterborough, I found that I could not change gear normally at all.

This is what happened when I found a busy roundabout...

post-2711-0-02962600-1466944057_thumb.jpg

I had to wait for a gap in the traffic, start the car in 1st and move straight away, home was achieved sometime later, after taking all roundabouts by backing right off of any cars ahead, watching the entrances to the roundabout and then blasting round them as soon as it was clear. I am thankful for the little 1.5's torque that this manouvre was possible!

A quick inspection shows that all of the clutch fluid has escaped somewhere, I will get it on the lift soon to see if it's the slave cylinder that has burst.

Cracking on then.

The new Slave cylinder arrived early and was the correct one for the truck, that is inspite of them not listing one for the truck and me having to find it's part number and ask them to order it that way.

What more could a mechanic want to do on a Friday evening after a busy day at work?

Out with the ramps and the tools; I'd managed to get enough fluid into the failed cylinder to at least have a little clutch action:

Whilst we have a cat of our own, it was not keen to help with the task at hand.

This is not our cat...

Nor is this:

Shitefest still inhabits the back of the truck:

post-2711-0-90757700-1467417523_thumb.jpg

Nearly done and with only a few bits left over (and no, that one isn't my cat either!)

post-2711-0-52158500-1467417563_thumb.jpg

The offending article:

post-2711-0-03959100-1467417614_thumb.jpg

Basically, the seal inside the slave cylinder had failed and allowed the fluid into the rubber boot, every time the clutch was pressed, more fluid escaped the system leading eventually to the complete loss of clutch action, happily after the new one was fitted and bled, the clutch seems to be just fine.

New cylinder fitted:

Amys corsa did this ish, the little pipe off the fluid reservoir to the clutch came off a d the clutch died shortly. A bit of disassembly in Halfords car park, pipe back on and moar fluid sorted it.

At least your clutch isn't dead

Well the big ungrateful yellow shit.

I replaced the perished fuel filler pipe today, having run it low on fuel to do so the truck wouldn't start.

No bother, I got it pushed into the workshop, fitted the new pipe and fuelled it up.... Still won't start.

No spark, no injections... fucksocks.

Jumbuck is fixed, it turned out that the crank sensor had gone for a burton so there was no spark or injector action.

Luckily the Satria Sport I nabbed the gearknob and tow eye cover from came up with the goods.

I also bought rather a lot of L400 Delica bits if anyone wants a gear selector stalk with working Overdrive, or an unbroken radio surround?
