Brammys new spotting thread, a trip down memory lane.

Following some requests and the reality that I should start posting on here again, what better way to start than by spamming the forum with my spots?

I've somehow ended up going abroad multiple times in the time since I last posted, so I'll start with those.

23097362596_41280280b3_z.jpg1975 Chrysler 180. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

Nice 180 seen near my hotel in Madrid.

23099216585_3ea1139fb8_z.jpg1969 SEAT 124 Familiar. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

Not so nice 124 seen in a typical neighbourhood. As per with most European cities, the interesting stuff is way away from the centre now.

23096650771_ac23d003b7_z.jpg1981 Talbot Horizon LS. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

23044485842_e83cf58a6e_z.jpg1979 Renault 18. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

23015181171_0d53e7f6d8_z.jpg1991 Toyota Camry. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

Didn't expect to see one of these. Actually the second one I saw that day.

23004558471_1d3e11993b_z.jpg1983 Opel Corsa. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

For whatever reason, these Corsa As survive super well in southern European countries.

22955103656_c78df4c55a_z.jpg1978 SEAT 128 1430. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

The most fun thing can often be spotting the cars we never had.

22341566973_a12c956d9d_z.jpgOldies galore. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

This was a good bunch of roads for old cars but this took the biscuit. I think the people waiting by a bus stop behind me thought I was insane.

22693143170_e23dbfaf1e_z.jpg1990 Nissan Bluebird SLX. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

Utterly spotless.

22434885038_d054c0d942_z.jpg1986 Peugeot 505. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

A bit down at the heel, the other side was full of dents.

22404102607_d9584db77a_z.jpg1979 Ford Fiesta. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

Still a couple of MK1 Festers about.

22381057148_782b35fe6f_z.jpg1987 Renault 11 1.7 GTX. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

22170080193_bc5a7c3f9b_z.jpg1979 Chrysler 150 LS. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

This was a delight.

22152218734_7c5fec5dcc_z.jpg1981 Renault 12. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

As was this. Again, there's loads of genuine old cars about in Southern Europe.

More l8r.

Good God, I'll have to change my trousers now. The Reed green Nova and the Chrysler 150LS are worth a spotted thread on their own. Good to see you back, you've been missed.

I think those bars were just popular ornaments for the Spaniards back in the day. Also seen on continental (real) Minis.

Have some more:

I also saw one of these in Rome last week.

22702445295_fc4fa1f5d1_z.jpg1983 SEAT 131 Diplomatic. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

Was the 131 one of the most rebranded cars ever? These SEAT ones look class with vinyl roofs.

22678715131_0673c6dee5_z.jpg1976 SEAT 127. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

The omnipresent 127.

22619701922_bc6dd32fbc_z.jpg1983 Renault 9. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

Typical 9, not too rare in Spain just yet either.

16201164464_a57a4a9bf6_z.jpg1990 SEAT Malaga 1.5 GLX. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

To Barcelona, oddly plentiful for 80s cars. This Malaga appears to have crashed into a Spanish Halfords at some stage.

16247012273_b783a44529_z.jpg1994 Rover Montego 2.0 LXi. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

One of two Montegos I saw. The other drove past my hotel and looked in proper DIY specialist condition.

16721932708_bbf252c0c4_z.jpg1988 Pegaso J4. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

Based on the very same J4 we got here, just a tad longer lived….

Might post more this evening!

Cheers for the responses so far! I have an unhealthy addiction to spotting abroad it seems, as the stuff thins out here even more. Here's some from Rome, last week, mixed with some older ones.

25768137416_92bb5c84e7_z.jpg1989 Fiat Duna. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

The Duna was a booted Uno, but a South American Uno, which was a rebodied 147, which was a rebadged 127. Phew.

Buff

15360791546_49d83a450b_z.jpg1980 Fiat 238. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

Still a load of old vans plying their trade over there, not quite sure how they keep ancient commercials going for so long, there's loads of 80s and early 90s Iveco trucks in various sizes still about too.

More soon!

It's great to see you back and don't worry if your spotted thread goes to page 2 pretty quickly, as most people's do. Just means I can witter endlessly in mine and not bother anyone, at least. Now we just need to convince Trigger to continue his and I reckon most of the old guard quality spotters will be back in the game!

Is there a way of finding out the ages of Italian cars by their reg. plates? I'm guessing that the Rome plates went from black to white some time in the mid-80's but that early Delta looks fantastic with the black ones and those miniature front ones just look perfect.

  • 3 weeks later...

Some more, but all from my most recent Rome visit. Suppose I will have to put some UK spots up one day….

Welcome back B'77.

I remember seeing loads of those quad lamp Renault 12s and Seat 131s in The Balearics in the early 1990s and I made sure I got a Guisval model of them both. Some incredible cars still going over there. I had totally forgotten about the Lancia Prisma and the Regatas are ace too!

Frankly, you could fill your thread with early Deltas and I'd be a happy viewer - the radiator muffs on that one are a particularly nice touch. I've never registered the hints of Volvo 340 styling in them before, though maybe that's the chrome work and paint shade of that one, rather than the actual shape. They've both got big thick C-pillars though, I suppose.
