The Moog
Today started badly as couldn't find the keys to BAL. Turned house upside down but can't find them anywhere. Admitting defeat I trundled over to chez NJGleeds to finish off stripping AVO. A decision was made to take the engine out this morning. Just took loads of photos as we went Along Why tho? State of play right now is that AVO is literally a shell of itself. dome, Uncle Jimmy, Exiled_Tat_Gatherer and 3 others
The Moog
I think NJGleeds has finally forgiven me for making the garage stink of unleaded after draining the tank. In a thoughtful piece of engineering Mazda have a little drain plug in the bottom of the tank but there was a fair amount in there. Tonight Mr Leeds stuck the little ninja on the truck for the great scrapyard. D Spares & Tyres, Dirk Diggler and dome

The Moog
Fleet update time Getz - missus Moog's motor. The rear arches are getting a bit scabby. I keep meaning to sort them but can't be bothered. It just goes. Put petrol in (quite a lot of it) and it doesn't need much else. Lancer- I really like the car. It all works unlike my normal heaps. Being able to lock it helps. Rear tints means that I can drive around with a GSA gearbox in the back and no one knows. It needs a decent set of tyres and probably a couple of rear calipers. Mx5 - BAL - managed to lose the keys to this. So will have to break in at some point. Apparently a 4 number code is on the locks so replacement set can be ordered. Disappointingly it has an imobiliser that I will attempt to remove ( that will be interesting) once I can get back it then it is MOT time and LSD fitting. Rover 820si - as mentioned above a head has been procured for not massive money. That will be fitted with new timing belt and aux belt. The will MOT time. The Moog
Is there an easy way to find out what imobiliser I have fitted? The key looks like The recepticle is And has a magic reset button? There is a horn under the hood but no markings on it. The key fob has no markings on it. Any ideas? The Moog
The car battery was totally flat. Something seems to be draining it pretty quickly. So whipped it out to stick on charge. Underneath the battery was quite rusty Quick clean up and application of Krust Then when dry a coat of primer then two top coats of the nearest paint on Not perfect but better for now Stanky, Lacquer Peel and dome
The Moog
Yesterday sitting in my warm office I decided that tomorrow would be a good day to book to get the little mx5 MOTd. The dump of white stuff overnight has meant this afternoon sorting out the niggles was fun* First up was to fix the HT leads. I intended to swap over the green mazdaspeed ones from AVO onto BAL. Only issue was two of the boots came off in the sparkplug well. Amazon yielded these bad boys Which made the job simple Then I needed to relocate the battery. The rear mounting bolts had rusted through. I got one out but the other is far too crispy to come out It was then too cold to stop and take photos Got the battery sort of mounted and with a bungee cord holding it in place. Brakes were stuck on but some to and froing with emergency stops in the driveway seemed to unstick them. A quick tootle on a private* road showed that all four discs were back to being shiny. MOT is booked in for 9:30 tomorrow and fingers crossed it won't need much to get through. Then we can sort out improving it. The Moog
Tester has put it up on the ramps because he wanted to see if it was worth testing after last time! So far initial inspection has got thumbs up. Got a small hole on outer sill at rear drivers side but it is solid underneath. So going to get a full test. Nice of them to check rather than just fail it. Jim Bell
The Moog
Headlight need adjustment - guy just did it for me once we had worked out how it works on the NA. Needs a set of wipers but looking positive Tickman and Jim Bell
The Moog
And failed. Only on wipers so trip to BBC and £12 later and a pass A fair amount of advisories but as the tester said it is all consumable stuff such as tyres, anti roll bar bushes etc. shoddybanger, Tickman, mrbenn and 8 others

Broadsword
29 advisories! That must be a new record for Autoshite. It goes to show how different MOT testers are in mentality. I get the feeling with some testers most of those advisories would not be on the list. What is "Front valve stem slightly damaged"? shoddybanger
That's a peppy looking MX5 there. Pity the AVO was too far gone. Must say, that reg would be a keeper here, because "avo" means "cabrio" in the local lingo. Those MOT advisories you folks in GB need to put up with, tho.. I mean... "front valve stem slightly damaged"? Are you kidding me? That they would have time to gawk at someones tire stems just boggles the mind. The Moog
I cant really fault the guys there. It failed on headlight adjustment and wipers. I went to get the wipers and they adjusted the headlamp and so it was a pass. He showed me most of the advisories and I cant really quibble. It looks bad but probably £120 worth of bits to fix it all. Currently the car stands me £342 for an MX5 with an MOT.
