Moogs Motahs - sinking the seat

So I have been offered an early Rover 820i for free - H32FRO

Giffer owned and he has had to give up driving.

The description is

Big oil leak, no water in rad due to leak and Suspected hydraulic tappet issue

mot expired in April 2016. 44k on clock.

Based in Sheffield. Can't drive it away as fluids pissing out.

I take it these are worth the square root of FA?

World of pain or savable?

I think the stumbling block will be getting it back from Sheffield.

It's this one.

Hopefully going to have a squizz tomorrow.

That's my thoughts, I think that worse comes to worse just loads of water and take it easy. Less worried about an oil leak on an old Rover. I literally have no use for it but it's free.

Tonight I wandered over to have a look at this Rover 800.

It is a friend whose 88 year old dad has given up driving. He owned the car since it was a year old and stopped driving it two years ago.

Genuine 44k on the clock and is absolutely mint.

It is tucked up next to this

Battery was flat as a flat thing and then flattened my jump pack. Nothing for it but to fire up the Pinto! 4e709a889d81e0d630b74108e151fd18.jpg

With some found jump leads life was coaxed into the Rover. 77ec0ec20d3d047885d4f018e9010a6e.jpg

It has got a hydraulic sticky tappet and then once up to temp started doing a little wee out of the radiator.

Brakes weren't stuck on and drove back and forward two foot well enough.

As was hunting for Rover oil leaks this happened on the ford

Rover needs a new radiator, cambelt, servicing, brake fluid change and probably water hoses changing.

Deal was done - i am replacing capris heater hose for the Rover. Once it is on the road and MOTed I will take it back to take the father out for a run in it.

After that we shall see. Any idea what a low mileage 820si is worth?

I did ask about Capri but it is owned by a nephew who has left it sitting there for a while. That is pretty minty as well.

Aye, ask LS about prices.

I'd say mid-high three figures?

That was sort of my thinking. There is a white room one up for a fair few quid for more but I bet these are pretty hard to shift.

Rad is about £150 then see what else it needs. Cambelt plus water pump is about £100. I reckon will be about £500 to get it back up and running properly

That was my thought!

I don't want to lose money on it, and anything I make I can stick in mx5 pot.

Option A is get it, Forte stop leak and MOT it.

Option B is spend money on it which hopefully can be recouped later.

Took advantage of a break in the drizzle to have a go at the 406 egr valve. I will let you guess how well it went

The little bastard is hidden at the back of the engine. cff13140addc1b29c338ae20683ed9fa.jpg

The 406 has the turbo hidden at the back of the engine and it is tilted back so access to all of it is tough. The person that designed that needs a boot in the bollocks.

I could get at one bolt easily enough but the other wouldn't come off.

The second bolt is located under the stub of the EGR valve so almost impossible to get access to. Tried attacking it from the other end by taking off air filter but that was no better.

Flipping french cars.

Nice and clean down the back as well.

Googling just basically said it was an utter arse and to disconnect the EGR valve so after an hour of messing about I did just that.

On plus side I am pretty sure I can hear a turbo whistle so that must be working although slower than a tortoise which had been smoking Spice.

Maybe I could just fit an LPG kit to the rover and keep that instead!

As seen elsewhere i luckily* won a car last night. I started looking at trains but then a transmission from radio hairnet landed in my inbox suggesting he gives me a lift tomorrow to collect. Not one to look a gift pony in the mouth I gratefully accepted.

Day started with everyone in the house excited

Breakfast consumed (apologies for lack of fags and strong tea - must be my southern roots)

Weather check

Oh lovely. Hairnet arrived and started whisking me south.

Luckily his driving has improved since knockhill.

Saw this on the way

Arrived and added another ace shiter to the collection that I had met.

Ranting yoof had completed all the preflight checks so that chance of breakdown on way home was virtually nil.

The Volvo is literally the nicest car I have ever owned, and definitely the newest.

Documents signed then off to feed the hairnet. Nosebag finished, both cars were topped up with fuel before setting off northwards.

Roads back were fairly clear although pretty much pissed down the whole way.

In total with cruise achieved

Missus Moog has been taken for a drive in it.

Apparently it is too good for me, although she then muttered about selling the Peugeot and keeping that!

So to sum up

yes, yes I am.

Tonight is collection number 2 of the week (no not a jag!)

Tools, stop leak, water, jump pack (FULLY CHARGED)  and hose tape all loaded into the car.  I have another assorted shitest joining me for this one.

Plan is to drive over and resurrect the rover after 2 years and drive it carefully home. I have promised the owner that once it is back on the road I will go back and give him a drive out in it.

I am still waiting on my Ford Capri hose that I promised the owner to fix. Apparently it is going to be delivered today (ohh the jeopardy) if not I will have to make another journey across to go and fix that.

Collection number 1 has already moved to pastures new being swapped for a more suitable vehicle for me.

The new owner may reveal themselves at some point - they are likely to smoke around in it for a while before probably changing clutch and DMF. Apparently these are over £500 even at trade price.

Driving the Volvo made me realise that I really like the 406.

So steps have been taken to improve it - I have ordered fascia plate so I can change the stereo out (I have got a mechless unit in the AS secret Santa), I may* have taken steps to improve the sprightliness of the 406 and when I get some money I think an ozone machine will be purchased to try and get rid of the vape/fag smoke.

Then it needs a cam belt and service, the engine cover needs new mounts, I need to check the brakes and finally think about what to do about the bodywork (probably nothing)

I am also going to have a Roffle ban. I will finish the ones I am in and then no more for a bit.

Good luck with that.

I'll have your Jag ticket :)

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your kind offer, but as a long established member of the website called Autoshite, I have become addicted to the rush of fear and pain of Roffles. This Jaguar motorcar one is of no difference to any of the previous Roffles and as a junkie I need that rush. So I will have to decline your kind offer at the current time.

In order to not leave you disappointed, I am gifting you all my entries into future Roffles at just the cost price of each ticket.

Yours sincerely

SnaggleMoogPuss

Rover collected.

All fluids are still inside the car. Brakes are erm challenging. Exhaust is a bit noisy.

Apparently it is a nice car to drive.

Mr Njgleeds broke the first rule of collection club and opened the sunroof!

Being a Rover of course everything works so it closes nicely.

Just stopped at the northern powerhouse venue for food. 380c2e76915f8379327e5db43c7ce71f.jpg3d592525569362e2c133e392d35d1f30.jpg82e22b173c79c82d1c7d6c48267615d2.jpgpost-3994-15331497070709.jpeg741d05b565edeb29555a7324c367ec2f.jpg6ad113984aca3a0362dd60a324fd1045.jpg038490b0518611e4f39a137b995bcb66.jpg
