Moogs Motahs - sinking the seat

Two of the bolts holding the drivers seat of the Puma in have sheared. 

 

Does anyone near Accrington have the ability & tools to fix this? Beer tokens available. 

 

Or I guess a sparkly stick could be used to weld the seats in . Not ideal but would work.

Braving my icky cold I tackled this today as I needed the puma for Knockhill on Saturday.

 

One bolt came out easily with this set from Screwfix

Drilled a small pilot hole then used the extractor to remove the bolt.

 

 

The other bolt was drilled through then selected one from this kit

 

And voila one seat securely attached.

Puma is feeling poorly this morning after its knockhill session. 

 

Current symptoms are 

 

  • Grinding front left brake 
  • Whining rear brakes
  • Groaning when turn left 

Its not like that this time next week it will be my only car ..... oops. 

 

Will likely cancel the autotest on saturday as need to get it fixed asap.

Will evaluate it tonight - insurance runs out tomorrow so would have to do reinsure it and then cancel the insurance in the cooling off period to get it to there. 

 

Or could just buy a) a broken 172 or B) an mx5  :-)

Or c: a Saab 900 V6 that you've already had at least once!

In the beautiful autumn weather I took a look at the brakes.

 

Didn't look too bad at first glance as a few mm of pads left . Once off it was clear one of them had rubbed down to the metal.

Also the anti rattle spring had disappeared into the ether

 

New versus old. Clearly can see the rubbing. Pretty much 4 hours of constant abuse killed the pads.

 

Cleaned up and all back together.

 

The creaking from the top mounts was fixed with some grease to stop them making a noise.

 

I lowered the tyre pressures for the last run and it was obviously too low for the sidewall. I think I need to run 36 ish fronts hot for the Toyos to work properly.

Hyundai Getz washers were more blocked than a constipated hippo so took some time to fix them today.

 

The filter on the pump was full of slimey gunk. I cleaned it and only then decided to take some photos. I also tool the washer bottle out to clean it all up.

 

Then using the tyre pressure I blew threw all the hoses. Loads of crap spurted out. Needed about 25 psi to shoot it all out!

 

Very satisfying :-)

 

Simple jobs keep me happy.

Yesterday the puma decided to signal it's displeasure at being the only car on fleet by screeching when turning left.

 

It was a bit too much noise to ignore. So braving the miserable weather I set to it.

God that puddle is right where I need to be.

 

Jacked it up and lobbed stand underneath. The wheel was really stuff to turn.

Wheel off. Brake disc is sticking which isn't great. It has had new calipers (which I rebuilt) and new pads. Discs are a few track days old. They don't look or feel warped.

 

Jacked up the other side and put it into gear

 

Passenger side was fine

A job I think for the warmer weather.

 

At this point I just got on with the investigation. It looks like the braided line had popped out of the holder and was rubbing on the wheel.

 

Couple of cable ties and all back together.

 

Test drive and it has stopped screeching. Still grinds a bit turning left but that is the strut brace I think.

Hope you left enough slack for the steering to turn when fully extended? I've seen that mistake & it made a right mess (in their y-fronts) when the brakes had gone missing.

Yep tested full lock both ways. It is just running through a cable tie loop so enough flex in it

Had my occasional drive of the missus Moog getz today. It is an 03 1.6 auto.

 

She always has it on miles left display so I thought I would check out the mpgs.

Fuck a duck. She doesn't even drive it fast. That is Volvo 2.5 territory

 

Cant see any calipers sticking so might try a full service to see if we can improve of a bit.
