Isn't that in the wrong, the later Charles Wright font?

Probably.... That sort of thing doesn't bother me. I choose the first reflective stick on numberplate on eBay.

It never used to bother me either until I started coming on here.

Now I have sleepless nights, spend ludicrous amounts of money on replacement plates,

I am embarrassed about not replacing them on everything I own

and I spot them everywhere I turn....

This place etc.

So done a couple of hundred miles in the roffle 406 and fallen in love with it.

Reminds me of my 405s if a bit more wafty. The 2.1 is a nice engine and potentially should be better mpgs on motorway.

I think that this plus a track car is the way forward .

Currently it needs:

Good clean inside and out
Better tyres
New dampers all round
Something to get rid of fag smell
Bulbs in most of the displays
Air filter and oil filter changing
Investigate the rough idle
Replace steering wheel as it has flat spots from wear
See if can get multi function display to work
Tint rear windows
Handbrake adjusting

Longer term:

Sill welding up
Check and fix brakes plus fluid
See if can get sunroof to work
Replace key fob cases
Replace rear wiper

Overall I think I could spend £400 and have a keeper.

Having driven this for a couple of days I thought it bloody lovely. Waffty with a nice bit of oomph

and shit loads of room in the back.

I like practical vehicles. Airbed in the back for Shitefest. Tip truck, etc.

Mind you from a 305 van to a 406 is a huge jump for me, so my opinion may be worthless.

The centre display needs bulbs. It pops out the dash. There is a little dial on the side to change features too so if you change wiper stalk to a multi function one and add a few wires to the dash you will have a fully functional trip computer. The mileage bulb I guess the dash needs to come out. Regards smoke smell, yes I can get to blame but it had a lot more odd odours when I first got it. I also gave it a quick clean but nothing too extravagant. Mainly to get rid of multiple dog hairs. The idle issue went then came back then went again and I never did find it. The two rear tyres are middle of the road tyres, not budget but not top spec and only have around 1.5k on them. Thanks for mentioning shockers too. I did have my suspicions about the rears. With the towbar and dog hairs and smells when I got it I assume it's done a bit of dragging in its life. That sill was actually only an advisory at last test too

I never bothered with centre display though as the knackered temp sensor told me it was between 38 and 52 degrees

I think idle is air leak. There is a bit of roughness sometimes under acceleration.

Will stick some clear hose on it to check for bubbles.

Overall very happy with the car, although must remember it isn't an mx5 - found myself going a bit cheekily too fast into bends.

It don't handle too bad but the back end tends to pogo. That's another reason I think the back shocks are bollocksed

It was a decent enough car, I probably shouldn't have gotten rid of it but letting it go brought me a step closer to fitting the twin cam engine in the lada.
I swapped it for the 340, sold it and used the money to buy the engine.
I can also confirm the car smelled when I got it, I don't smoke or have a dog either so tried to cover up the smell with air fresheners, not that it really helped.
