Moogs Motahs - sinking the seat

The Moog

Recommended Posts

A quick 10 mins after coming back from walking the dogs I decided to try and fix the fuse.

I pulled out the stereo and disconnected it, as Sri05 said this was the cause of the fusing.

Luckily being the shiter I am, I had brought a multimeter with me. Head torch donned and a prod of all the fuses began

Under the bonnet fuses yielded a lack of continuity

It was one of these small fuses in the yellow block. Using brute force and ignorance I wangled the yellow block out.

The fuses were held captive in there (I am not sure why they are done like this) and some pondering I worked out the fuses holders needed to be spread.

Tools to hand - a makeshift spreader apart and makeshift pliers

And boom 9ae3c07a9c70f9e0ca68b7eeb8f9a956.jpgeaa319e579c2395b67b3405a4ffb135f.jpg

All back together

We now have lights and central locking.

I will have a prod of the stereo tomorrow to see if I can work out why it might have fused.

Feeling pleased with myself, all the seals got silicone and the locks graphite courtesy of Lidl sprays.

That makes sense. I assume that the fuse that popped covered the power when ignition off.

Hoping I can get the stereo back to operation as my singing is only so tolerable!

On plus side the dogs love the blacked out windows as they just sleep in the back.

Every day's a school day. Not something I've ever come across before.

They seem to be more of a thing with Japanese stuff...also known as IOD (install on delivery) fuses.

I’ve had one or two recent model Quashqais where they have vibrated loose and lost all convenience features such as navigation.

Nice easy fix when you know about them :-)

Never knew that about those transit fuses. Makes sense though.

Today's mission was to get some noises available for the car.

Utilizing my assorted tools, first up was a good probing. 96da6fcd43a7caec1f4dbd439ac7e3bc.jpg

Checked the permanent feed and the switch feed had power. Then checked the pins on the iso connectors.

The issue was that the black ground wasn't connected to anything. There was a spare black ground with a plug in that I utilised.

Cut and stripped using the mighty scissors

Connection made

Due to lack of electrical tape, duct tape was applied to avoid any short circuits

Almost professional. Obviously this is just a temporary repair - which I guess will end up staying in place until it doesn't work.

All back together and checked

Working noises to drown out my singing.

AVO is in for an MOT tomorrow afternoon so thought I had better give it a vague chance of passing

Up on ramps

Garage rummage revealed the following

Holes

Apply

Leave to dry whilst clean and grease the pipes underneath

Then run engine to dry it

Sadly it didn't work. Quick trip to Halfords got me

f2cf74b4daef1a6b01d4d8c26ed7f76f.jpge1054257964f09f261bc9d00a304f701.jpg and some more bandages.

Sadly it was freezing by this point so no photos. I have left it to dry over night.

Before the Mazda I tried changing the post cat O2 sensor.

New eBay sensor

Old one loosened and out

They look the same

Then the issue is that the thread is probably a couple of mm too big to fit into the exhaust. Going to have to return it and get a refund.

Just the adjustable spanner and a tappy tap tap with a rubber mallet. Never seem to have an issue with O2 sensors. It's a little odd as the connection is inside the cabin so I will have to work out how to remove the centre console to get at it.

Yep it is fucked. New one is £70 from eBay. The MOT is just to see if it will pass or not. If it does then get a new one otherwise it is plan b or c. Current exhaust repair attempts add up to £9 so not breaking the bank.

Results are in

They are pretty good guys and wanted to know about the car. Tester said that it is a great engine but the body is just returning to the earth. Some of the welding underneath has rusted through and the arches are pretty much gone.

If it was one or two things I would attempt to fix it but it is too much. The plan was to swap diff and brakes over then sell the MOT one.

Currently the list of bits AVO could donate are

LSD

Hood

Wing Mirrors

Engine cooling parts

Steering wheel

Boot lid

Brake calipers front and rear

Braided brake lines

Front seats could be swapped

Cabin brace

HT leads

421 exhaust

Decat pipe

That probably adds up financially to more than I would get from all the hassle of swapping them over then selling a car with an armful of advisories.

So next step is to book a session at NJGleeds garage to strip the car and weigh in the shell.

If anyone needs any mx5 bits then shout out and I can pull them off for you if I don't need them
