Moogs Motahs - sinking the seat

Coffee was scattered to the four winds....

Cool. A stainless 421 it will be then. Just need to save up a few pennies first. I assume heat wraps are worth the effort?

The old one has just rusted through just after O2 sensor.

I am not sure that you can weld to rust otherwise would use it as my first welding project.

Keep the broken bits and have a go at fixing it anyway ?

If you have a choice, it might be worth going for one with a flexible joint, with the whole exhaust rigid from the engine to the tailpipe, it probably gets pretty stressed on the track. As for heat wrap, it's said to be good for keeping engine bay temps down but needs to be well fitted to avoid 'hot spots' occurring. Having said that, it's only a 1.6, not some turbo nutter bastard kicking out a million horsepower so might not be necessary.

Your current manifold was heat wrapped when I bought it (used) but it started to unravel and fall off so I took the rest off and ditched it, as I had the "Randall cowel induction mod" fitted, air temps were less of a concern.

Goes off to Google randall cowl mod...

Also notices that everytime he speaks to GM he ends up getting more stuff....

Luckily correlation isn't necessarily causation ... phew

Scroll back to the pic of Brown Bear looking for vacuum leaks and all will be revealed - nothing very exciting, just a duct from the air box through the firewall to draw nice cool air from the high pressure area at the base of the windscreen, an intake mod that actually works. Far more effective than the various cone filters that folks fit and far cheaper than the jrcai (just to give you something else to google)

Total Car Check?

They are tuneable, ask Supernaut about his Xantia. If I remember correctly the ones with Siemens (?) ECUs aren't easy to tune but Bosch ECUs are. A bit like Lucas vs. Bosch in the mechanical pump cars.

Good call LP. It is a 90.

My fleet is mostly red today.

406 collected - looks like a potential bargain with one family owned from new with same garage looking after it.

Came with 4 pretty much brand new tyres, engine bay is just dusty and looks like new front shocks recently.

Bodywork is a bit battle scarred but hopefully I can swap things over on the older 406.

Only downside is that it is glacially slow. I maybe thought it was due to being in mx5 recently but even the getz would beat it. I would say there is no turbo stuff going on by its performance

To be fair after getting back out in the Locost even the S4 feels slow. You adapt very quickly to a fast car.

Now, if I could just give the S4 another 200bhp...

Yesterday with the kind help of njgleeds I collected the new 406.

Today in the good weather I thought I would strip what I could/need off old one and stick it on new one.

First I popped over to see Mr Leeds where he whapped the scanning tool on the car to try and remove airbag light - as you can see someone used the patented blacktape method to get through mot.

Scanned and cleared - it was found the passenger airbag was turned off. f53c57f4fa4dc62859046104fdb7390d.jpg

Signs that 406 has been a work horse and suffered a bit of neglect

Firstly I decided to stick a new air filter in ( Bub gave me a new filter when I collected the old car)

That's better. A bit more lively as well. Also changed the fuel filter

Well overdue.

The rest of the day was a lot of cursing at the Peugeot god's due to rusty bolts or differences in the two cars.

Example the R reg is GLX and T is LX. GLX is miles better seats. But of course the airbag connections are radically different

Cd changer isn't working in new one but is a clarion - old is Philips. 9d80f39e0c996d71820dc6f87487253c.jpg

Bumpers would benefit from swapping but a series of rusty bolts sapped my will. So flip that for a game of soldiers.

Wing mirrors were swapped so now I can see properly behind me

Boot carpet swapped along with parcel shelves.

New front tyres removed from old one and the spares put on instead to keep it rolling. Also swapped rear light clusters and a few bits of trim.

Left the old pug sitting waiting to become bean tins.

Overall a bit frustrating as would love to have swapped the seats.

Can’t you just cut the plugs off the old seats and solder them to the new ones?

Not without spending time working out where they go etc.

Old plugs have 3 connectors but seemingly 1 wire

New has 3 wires which are different colours to 3 connectors that are different colour with also two spare plugs taped up under the seat

I might just pull the seats and then put them aside for a rainy day to see if I can work out how they fit. I had hoped it would be an easy job

There's lots and lots of rainy days in Accrington. What's the weather like today? No time like the present. Procrastination is for wimps and squares.

I say this whilst running a nice bubbly bath instead of doing an oil change.

I hope you enjoyed your bath and got your back scrubbed!

Decided against the seats. They will just sit there lurking, reminding me of my failures * before I end up taking them to the tip.

This came today. ca7ce3550c8e00a0c29289a8c26cc331.jpg

For £12 plus some exhaust paste I am hoping it will quieten the Mx5.

Tenth of the price of an eBay manifold (although had been tempted to credit card it over the weekend.)

* I have missus Moog for that job.

Flexi won't work due to where it has gone.

My esteemed Scottish shiters suggest it will weld fine and after thinking for a whole 5 minutes this is arriving on Wednesday

My red fleet will be diminished by one tonight.

Roffle pug is going to be bean tins. Driving it straight after the new* one shows me how shagged it is.

Would need full set of shocks, new battery, welding on sills plus the pump going = James brown time.

Potentially will be quids in from the £30 roffle spendage.

good luck shifting that lambda sensor - it looks well stuck :(

the whole manifold has only been on there for a few years since the previous one went at the same place - hopefully the studs won't be stuck in the head

Shhhhhh don't say that. I am sure* it will all pop off

Just in case It's probably just worth changing the lambda sensor - I saw mentioned it needs to be extended - is that true?

Most of manifold nuts came undone easily. Not sure about cat ones. But if that puts up a fight I might just have* to fit a decat.
