Prince of Orange junction. House was Old Road West, garages were Singlewell Road.

I know where you mean. Always thought that was a respectable area of the town.

It generally was, apart from the occasional mass brawls at the pub (fun to watch from the bedroom window), the cocaine dealing at said pub and the fact the garages couldn’t be seen from the main road down the bottom.

One time, I walked down to my rented garage (after I’d stupidly parked it outside the garage door) to find my car’s roof had been run over by someone trying to get onto a garage roof and presumably into someone’s garden. Let it fly because my car was utterly worthless and battered.

Had my number plates nicked down there once too and also had a contractor threaten me with physical harm when we challenged them as to why they were down there (smoking dope on a lunch break) So we rang the Police, then his boss. We we then delighted by the follow up call from their boss to inform us that they had been sacked with immediate effect.

I lived there for 20 years or so. My parents moved from South Hill Road from when I was about 4, and I was in the Old Road West house until I moved out at 24-ish.

Anyway. Thread derail. Apologies!

The right side of the river is not Essex as far as I'm concerned!

Pushed out of the garage (front brakes were locked on, but she moved), it got the sun* on its back for the first time since last December

The battery off af1's Saxo was good enough to get her to run (first turn of the key)

Then a bit of chat was had, and this Y2K picture was taken...

Date set for next week for af1 (with my dubious help!) to have a go at cambelt and pump!  :-D  :-D

Top bloke for helping out.

It's times like this when it's a shame you can only like something once.

Top man, af1!

Friends, you may have noticed I have raised some cash by roffling a bass guitar on the open forum. I can reveal why!

Here is an OEM, original, unpainted, black top rear bumper!! A dealer was selling off stock.

It appears to have arrived in one piece. This may be a spend to save, as now, painting this bumper will be much cheaper,as they don't have to do two colours.

This is for the base of course...

In that colour you might, in the right circumstances, do a passable job with an aerosol.

I’d doubt very much it would be much cheaper to paint, you’ve still got to mix the paint and the difference in labour is fractional. At a guess £80-100, that’s the sort of figures I’ve been quoted in past for similar jobs.

In theory, this should help with the cambelt job

I was quoted £90 (plus the dreaded) to paint a front bumper locally. Unfortunately, by the time I’d wasted £40 on paint and lacquer having a go myself, the quote went up by £40 as there was extra work putting on a barrier coat. That was a metallic btw. Suspect I could have waited and wet sanded it for a better diy finish but needed it done sooner rather than later.

Wouldn’t tackle anything metallic, but a flat blue should go on no problem providing you aren’t blending it or spraying it somewhere damp.

Agreed, solid paints the way to go. Assuming a decent quality aerosol, of course!
