Volvo 740 Estate. £100.00 - Who's next?

I'm going to be getting an itchy bidding finger before long, and as much as I love the wretched thing, the 740 will have to go at some point.

Not in a hurry, but the MOT runs out mid Feb, and I'd rather not throw any money at it.

I've put it at £100, which does not even cover my costs to collect it, so hope that isn't unreasonable?

Raffle Tickets = £10

To buy the winning ticket off the winner (for charity) = £65

Train fares = £41

Fuel home = £25

It has faults, but works surprisingly well in spite of its prior neglect.

Yes, there is still water ingress into the roof cavity, but that can be solved by removing the roof bars and sealing the holes.

Message me on O7415 718O3O, as I'm not always on here.

Car is located in essex, near Southend on Sea.

Isnt this the one with the massive gaping rot holes at the side of the boot where you can see the wheel and the road from the inside?

Since this was clearly mentioned in DW's thread, it seems a little off to not mention it here where you are trying to sell it to someone?

Oh piss off you pedant :D

Ok.

Here are the problems.

Leaky roof

Sunroof taped over

Hole in boot floor

Paint flat

Badly fitted roof bars

Cat paw prints on bonnet

Wiper missing from nearside headlamp

One relay temperamental.

Day running lights not working.

Rev counter not workingFuel gauge displays random readings.

Damp smell

Engine idles very low on tickover, but hasn't shown any issues in driving.

Brakes calipers sticky

Scratches and dents in various places.

Radio code blocked

Glovebox broken, held shut with a screwdriver

Headlining saggy / ripped

Some dash lights do not work

Boot struts do not hold the tailgate open.

Rear shock absorbers and/or springs tired from towing.

Plastic casing on towing electrics damaged.

Drivers door lock a bit sticky, you have to wiggle it

Occasionally shows a 'bulb out' warning, then it goes off.

Welsh flag on boot

Very, very sorry if I have missed anything.

And the price is a fair indication that it isn't going to be great.

I do agree with that, and I cannot stress enough that 1) a £100 car isn't going to be great and 2) I'm certain the vendor is spot on. However...one of my pet hates is when people don't mention known/obvious faults. I've bought cars from £30 upwards and been pissed off to find knackered head gaskets, shagged clutches etc. I'd have probably still bought them, but the point is it changes the future of that car and I'd have liked to have known the truth from the off. Obviously things aren't always obvious and faults can be genuinely over looked, but blindingly obvious things should be stayed first.

Once again I'm not knocking the seller of this Volvo.

The problem with the V8 idea is you'll spend a load and end up with a shit looking old Volvo that pisses water in when it rains, with a v8 in it that makes it moderately fast in a straight line and unusably thirsty.

The problem with the V8 idea is that as with most big engine swaps and other large mods it all looks really easy on the internet but the reality is its likely to be a fucker of a job, meaning the car gets taken half to bits and chopped about, enthusiasm fails, MOT expires, it sits under a blue tarp in the garden which slowly gets ripped to shreds by the wind and eventualy wife/mummy/neighbours/Council demand it to be shifted so it gets fragged.

And even if it does get finished and running, what would you do with it? thirsty, not very great on the corners, rotten in and out.....its destined to have its diff welded and spend 3 weekends going sideways round Driftlands and then get fragged.

The solution is to repair it properly.

Or frag it.

I've been in EXACTLY the same situation, right down to the crappy blue tarp! But fortunately wifey was understanding/tolerant/had given up all hope of me seeing sense, and after 10 years I managed to reverse the decline and get it finished...

First things will be tailgate struts as you can get new for under 20 quid and then a strip out of the seats and so on.

The car will be under roof cover so not worried about leaks. The roof rails will need sorting and I may as well remove the headlining as it is seemingly knackered anyhoo.
