1999 Honda Accord Coupé 2.0i ES - Wednesday draw 6th Jan 2016!

So because I'm fickle and bought a 406 Coupé instantly after this, it's actually never been pressed into service. The Honda that was too good to see go to scrap, is still too good to see go to scrap.

What is it: That blue Honda Accord Ben rescued. It's mostly very solid, the windows & sunroof work, the radio works, in fact everything comfort-related works apart from the reversing lights, which confuse me but assume is an earthing point as the relay/switch are good. Remote locking works. Handbrake works.

Interior mostly nice - usual bit of the seat bolster gone but the rest looks good and is supportive.

Bodywork has a couple of gouges on the doors, deep stonechips. Solid underneath.

Engine light now off - cat sensor reconnected. ABS light still on - there's a shit wiring repair to the OSR sensor so logic suggests that's where to start. MOT expired in December, the ABS light (and sticky calipers) are the bits I think need attention - exhaust has been holding up, the O2 sensor is hooked up and it starts/idles etc. cleanly, the tyres are okay, all the other bits I can think of seem good. Didn't wander or clonk when driven back down.

Rear brakes need strip & clean/service/

Front brakes need pistons cleaning, as sill sticking despite new discs, pads and cleaned sliders. It does drive, but the brake drags.

I paid £170 for the car, had fun collecting it, then bought new discs & pads for the front for about £70. I make that £4/ticket, which seems appropriately appealing.

The car is in a field near Lutterworth. Or more accurately in the yard here. It starts, stops, goes around corners, has all the legally required lights and water-flicking-sticks, a couple of keys and a remote plip thing that works. It's done 130,000 miles. Even when unused for a while it starts first time, gears engage properly, I can't see any major oil or coolant leaks. The A/C probably needs attention somewhere but is complete and installed, with climate control panel working.

Nearest train stations are Nuneaton, Leicester (but I'll hate you if you make me drive to there, so go to Wigston on the little line to Nuneaton) or Market Harborough. J20 M1 for road planning. If you want to fly in, there's a small airfield nearby. Canal is also possible. Have I covered all the bases? Not sure about tunnels for mole-people.

But wait! There's more!

Successful winner will also get entertainment in the form of Amy Grant's classic album "Straight Ahead" on Cassette.

Feeling inspired by that '80s music? Get creative with... a STYLOPHONE!

I had a spare one. Now, one lucky shiter can get into the world of professional music with an instrument used by the likes of Bowie & Pulp.

But it's not all about the music here. Photography is also important, so, you will find in the boot/glovebox/wherever it fits, a 1980s Polaroid Impulse AF 600 camera. Film is still available for this from the Impossible Project, though not cheap. And to help inspire some creativity there, there will also be random copies of F2 Freelance Photographer, Cameracraft and Master Photography, photo magazines I work on/we publish.

'

And for when the inevitable* FTP happens, entertainment is provided in the form of two exciting* books covering dream cars.

How bad is the brake drag. If it'll get back to Birmingham without boiling the brake fluid I'll take 28, 44, & 42 please.

Cheers

I drove it back from Cullercoats. It made it. Since then it's had the materials changed and the calipers greased, but the piston is sticky. I'd drive it to Birmingham and a prebooked MOT without worrying.

Lucky dips assigned - also went to poke car. Despite not being on a charger, or started for a while, it fired up right away. Moved it around a bit. The brakes are still sticky, so no magical elves have fixed it, but it gave a chance to appreciate the fine leather interior and the WORKING HEATED SEATS.

Clock isn't lighting up. The bulb is teenier than any I had to hand.

Reverse lights worked for a moment! They're good, too, can really see what you're reversing into. They stopped working though, so, eh.

Car has a lot of potential to be nice. I'm just overloaded with projects, underloaded with cash, and on several occasions have completely forgotten I own it.
