vectra 1.8 elegance accident damaged

Put it on eBay, then see what you get for it. I'd say put it on there, with some photos you've taken about this time of the evening, at a distance with your thumb over the lens in most of the shots. Give several hundred words describing the car and how wonderful its been but don't give anything away as regards its actual condition. Follow on at the end of the ad to say that you know what these vectras are worth these days, and that if it doesn't sell you will smash it to pieces with a claw hammer, then race it. Make some unreasonable demand that they pay for it in Mexican Pesos, and then pick it up at 3.20am on a Sunday. At which point you will arrive, late and drunk to do the exchange.

He isn't in best of health. I tend to help him with his work nowadays anyway regards motorbike repairs etc. Manual labour all his life from age 12 and he in his 60s now and its caught up with him. I'll buy clutch,33 quid for 3 piece kit.he bought van for me to use anyway with view to buying it in time as he only has bike license

Not an option probably but surely four straight doors, a tailgate, bonnet and wings have got to be worth coin?

£30 per door, £40 for tailgate, £20 per wing sees you at £200 straightaway.

With all the new parts, interior bits, headlights, rear bumper it has to be around £400 in bits?

The only way to get out of this without being financially arse raped is to repair the damn thing. Sounds like its possibly got a days worth of graft on it to get it running. As you have spent quite a bit on it getting it how you want it and running well it seems the only viable option. I only say this cos you seem to have got your fingers burnt with some of the cars you have had this year, and this only needs a  little work to be a good motor again. Also people are going to be dubious about buying a accident damaged car, especially at christmas and especially a car with a broken sump. Sleeves up and get it fixed.

Bub for me the only option is to repair the vectra - the only way it will be worth anything. You have spent £300 on it already that you won't get back if you dispose of it.

It's not as if they rust so body panels are'nt that sought after.

If it drives like crap after it has been fixed at least you can flog it on.

In the same way I complain about my wife!

They look good, don't rot and aren't as expensive to fix as their contemporaries.

However, they do go wrong - mine failed to proceed three times. But it added to the excitement!

Also the driving experience is not particularly involving.

This is my cup of tea - people pitied me for owning one. Now I drive an audi they think I'm a twat.

Which simply will not do.

To give you an insight into my psyche, I have owned four SD1's. I like the motoring equivalent of auto erotic asphyxiation- which a vec C is.

Yeahhh.. Bren you must be pished early- all I ever remember you saying is how much you hated your Vectra/ how pleased you were to get shot of it!!

A drop has yet to pass my lips.

I had the 120 diesel - slower than the EA's response to the floods. And about as reliable.

I would have the 150 diesel or a 4 petrol - the V6 is meant to be hoot but with horrendous running costs.

They're fucking awful full stop, though a 1.8 is probably the safest bet - buy Bub's and kill two stone walls?

EFAFTFY

Bren, how about a GSi or VXR 3.2? I would be quite happy if you got one and didn't like it, as you're not that far from me and I'd buy loads of raffle tickets.

I believe the road tax on V6's varies from expensive to extortionate.

The was an ex police one on eBay that looked the tits - a real sleeper and it was less than £4k which is still far too much for a Vectra.

I heard an urban myth that to have a V6 turbo serviced at a stealers was more expensive than having certain Ferrari's serviced at independent's.

Then again, I was told John Wayne was a Yugoslavian and Stan Laurel was Clint Eastwood's dad.

Enough about the wife, what was the Vectra like?
