2000 Rover 75 2.0 Club auto OMGROFFLE PAYMENT DUE, DRAW 09/01 OR SOONER

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine contacted me to say he had to sell his newly-acquired 75 quickly. He's a bit of an automotive magpie and had spotted a Xsara VTS he fancied - Dave gets through cars like the rest of us get through teabags.

He offered it to me, and as it was a Cowley car I thought it was a worth a shot - I wanted to see if it felt much different to my very early Project Drive Longbridge car. Plus, Dave had no spare storage room - if he couldn't sell it quickly it'd have been scrapped, and I didn't think that was really fair on a car which had the belts done 10000 miles ago and which appeared rot free.

Realistically though, I have too many cars as it is - I'll not get round to sorting this properly so it's only fair to let it go to someone who will.

So what is it? It's a W-reg Rover 75 2.0 Club automatic in Pewter with Smokestone Grey velour trim. It's got about 130000 miles, and according to the service indicator the next one isn't due for about 6500 miles. I had an MoT put on it which expires 12 months today and - incidentally - has not a single advisory, so the prospective new keeper needn't worry about that for a while. Barring a couple of dents on the nearside rear door and a fag burn on the driver's seat, it's in fairly straight order - a bit of lacquer peel on the bonnet is the only other whinge I can find. It could do with a new rear plate, but I have got a properly shaped one to fit and will be doing so before it goes.

It does have issues - it's currently running on 5 until higher revs, I suspect plugs or leads are at fault, but having just done the plugs on my blue one I really don't want to have to do them again. The gearbox inhibitor switch was a bit iffy when I bought it, but it's started behaving again. There's no radio in it, but it's got a plate to convert it to DIN so anything'll fit. But it's rot free as far as I can see, presents well, and drives fairly well barring the running issue mentioned above.

What this represents is a very good basis for a 75 project. Certainly, it's a better bet than my blue one was when I bought it, but I've just about finished sorting that one out so I'm keeping it for the foreseeable future. With a little work to the ignition system on this one you'd have a solid, reliable, pre Project-Drive car in a nice colour scheme, in need of a little love perhaps but certainly usable and saveable. Current pics to follow - I've put some older pics in this post, the only real difference is I've swapped the full chrome grille for the standard one from my blue car.

75s are the biggest hidden secret in Shiteland, and I reckon this'd make a great new year raffle car - how better to bring in 2016 than to buy a car that'll more or less see the year out? How does £7.50 a ticket sound - 7.5quid for a 75?

OMGEDIT: If it helps anyone decide either way on entering, car is currently at my house halfway between Peterborough and Huntingdon.

Mo - 2.0 Club auto is about as mid range as it gets. In 800 terms think of it as equivalent to a 1987 820Si auto. Done!

Steven - when the board's filled and all numbers are sold, all people who've chosen one or more number pay up. The car is then effectively sold to the raffle entrants as a collective. The result - the lucky winner of a Pewter grey Rover 75 - is then determined by the bonus ball in the following week's Lotto draw.

That's how I understand it anyway, and I've partaken in one or two of the previous raffles myself. Hope this helps!

Random numbers were picked by the www.random.org sequence generator, allocating the first numbers not already selected in the order of requests.

DeeJay, the rear bank of plugs is a faff owing to access. You have to dismantle part of the scuttle, remove the coil packs, and then do it by feel. The fronts are fine.

Chompy, yes it's the one you sat in at mine - the one that was parked next to the Volvo.
