Minor is one car that I've nearly bought several times. Reckon it's only a matter of time until I do wind up with one passing through the fleet, and that looks just the right shade of "fundamentally sound, but scruffy enough I'd not be afraid to use it" I think. Tickman Posted April 26, 2018 Author Share Posted April 26, 2018 So with the Knockhill Trackscotland event tonight I decided to spend a little time on the 172 as it has a strainge misfire and was putting the knock sensor code on. Last night at 10:30 in a pub car park 80 miles from home it was assessed by a body of shitters at the monthly Scotoshite meet. So this morning after some chores I headed of to have a look at the plugs, on the 172 this isn't a 5 minute job so Intake unbolted. Plugs out and they all look clean at the business end but at the other end one is not like the others. Picture quality fail. New correct plugs as the ones in there were wrong and back together. I took it for a quick go on the A90 and it seemed much more willing so fixed. I then drove home and got the eml light on again so code read and same knock sensor, more investigation time. That doesn't look right. Yeah, that is not pleasant. It has been taped up at present to see if that sorts out the fault, I will play later. Yesterday is the first longer run I have done in it and with all the radio stations available being utter rubbish on the way home I decided to invest in something for the quiet relaxing drive that is sometimes required. That doesn't look right. Special thanks go to JP as it was his comment about the kink in the wire that lead to the final discovery. Got my manual rack delivered today and starting to collect the other parts I need for the conversion. That defo looks like the high pressure hose that runs over the box as it's the opposite side to the pump and where that hose screws into the rack. Tickman Posted April 28, 2018 Author Share Posted April 28, 2018 I have done an investigation as to where all the fluid has gone and found the culprit. First I got some degreaser path and patio cleaner and brushed it about in the engine bay, this was washed away with lashings of water. I then topped up the fluid and started the car, I couldn't see the actual issue but I could feel it. Just at this bend it has a hole worn away underneath by the clutch so I will have to check the routing of the pipe. In a strange turn of events this pipe goes from the reservoir to the pump and is not under pressure, it must be the easiest pipe to get to so I am considering this a 'I have found the first issue' and not a 'I have found the problem' situation. gm, DeeJay and Split_Pin 3 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Tickman Posted May 2, 2018 Author Share Posted May 2, 2018 Following on from last week where Sid let himself and me down by pissing power steering fluid everywhere at Knockhill from here: I took the pipe off and went to Pirtek to see what they had to help. He measured the pipe and went and found a compression elbow that would fit, the only issue was it weighed a significant amount and the pipe would probably have suffered as a result, he offered to order up a lighter one and it would be in the following day (Tuesday) I agreed and away I went. I returned to collect the fitting and he asked if I had the pipe with me, which I did so he cut out the knackered bit and fitted the elbow. the fitting was £23 which is significantly more than an equivalent plumbing one but obviously this one was the correct size. Here it is: Looks just like a £3 one from screwfix but it isn't. I had a relaxing 160 mile drive home in the quiet while Chris had a noisy drive home. Tickman Posted May 10, 2018 Author Share Posted May 10, 2018 I have been effortlessly going about in the Jag and decided to have a look at the most annoying fault it has, the cup holder! If you lean your arm on the arm rest the cup holder opens, it spoils the whole ambiance So... Take it to the workshop, I didn't even attempt to get it in there. Arm rest off and in pieces This is the issue. I got a piece of metal to create the hinge socket. Drilled and mounted but the heads on the bolts interfere with the spring wire guide. So grind the heads down a bit until the issue is resolved. Reassembled and the fit is much better. I put it back in the car and the arm rest wouldn't latch and was sitting high at the front. the bit that latches it was broken so I took that off to fix. Glued and clamped to this piece of steel. These had been fitted under the catch to try and make it latch but were getting in the way. Fitted back in here. That is better. Quick test of the cup holder. How the latch should sit.
