In a shock turn of events Cartakeback have offered three times what I was expecting so it shall be going there next week.

I thought I was on a goldmine when I read that, so popped my plate into cartakeback and they only said £131 collected.  That's not enough for me!

Same model, 2.4 JTD Wagon.  Running, driving, off a Bedfordshire driveway.  The only difference would be lapsed ticket.

£114 collected or £156 delivered. It is quite local so it shall get driven along next week, I've just got about £20 worth of fuel to use first.

After getting this outside as someone is supposedly coming for it on Sunday I did a bit more Toledo work*.

I basically removed what was quite happy in this area.

Most of this was quite happy where it was.

As I said to Mr 320Touring at the weekend if it hadn't been bodged to get through MOT's then it wouldn't be here anymore, I just wish I was happy to bodge it back together again as that would be much less work.

*Sigh*

I haven't photographed the other side, it's worse :(

I can't remember which is my bad side, one is seriously frilly and has no structural bearing, the other simply isn't there and has been replaced with a mixture of cardboard, bathroom sealant and garden hose to see it through the last few MOTs. Everybody says you have to take the wings off to sort it properly and naturally the wings are welded on, because Triumph.

As previously detailed the Alfa's time is up and I quite liked the seats and have a plan for them so I asked at the scrap yard (cartakeback place) yesterday if it made any difference to the price given, he wasn't bothered at all so this happened. I left the drivers seat in until I got outside the scrapyard and then took it out before taking it in.

But how am I going to drive it in?

Next time I will use something that will hold my weight.

Good bye trusty steed.

Close of play mileage

So that leaves me with this as my trusty reliable family transport.

It was the car that introduced me to trackdays, and it had that lovely 5-pot soundtrack. It shall be missed.

Four pictures of emotions, strong feelings must have been made on the track day.

Oh well, how sad, Nevermind:)

This :)

Part of me is gutted, but part of me is pleased that the world will be that little bit quieter due to no more suspension creaks

I never noticed any suspension creaks when I was driving it. They were drowned out by the front tyres screaming for mercy as I understeered wildly. :D

Having been a passenger in this thing, on a farm track that seemed about 400 miles long but was really only about 2, I agree.

It sounded great at the start of ownership compared to the end where many more noises came along and joined the party.

My experience of Alfa ownership has been excellent and probably not the last. Even the Mrs has commented favorably about it. Hopefully the 172 does as good for me as the Alfa.

After updating the signature I noticed I am down to 7 (+1 daughters Clio) which is the lowest in a while.

So as Ben is up for sale I decided to give it a good check over.

The brakes I had backed off while in storage so it doesn't bind and I then have a nightmare getting it moved so up with the rear and I noticed one handbrake cable wasn't connected to the arm of the cylinder. One of the Clevis pins that hold it together had vanished. I'm not ordering one or buying a box of a million various sizes just to get the one I need instead I used these.

Previously there were two bolts and one Clevis pin before this picture was taken.

Some of the welding work that has been done to Ben before I bought him.

I priortised jobs and put the badges back on the front.

post-17457-0-05949600-1524583572_thumb.jpg

Then I investigated the drivers sill which I should have done before now,

Not happy with that.

post-17457-0-46832000-1524583574_thumb.jpg

That's better.

post-17457-0-24354900-1524583578_thumb.jpg

So later in the week I shall be rebuilding that as it should be, not too difficult really so shouldn't take too long.

I also changed the steering rack gaiters but need to grease it before securing them in place. It was a messy job so no pictures of that.

So where did I leave off?

Ah yes I had 'investigated' the drivers side sill and found it wanting.

I didn't take many pictures as I wanted to just get on with it.

It got to this point and I needed a break so I started on the pictures

That is it all tied back together again.

Stuff removed.

Cover sill just resting in position.

End of day shot.

post-17457-0-08477700-1524668381_thumb.jpg

I have some holes to drill for bolting the sill cover back on, no doubt that will take ages to get it right but that can wait for another day.
