That failed Chemical Metal fix was my doing - it was fine, but my Mrs kept leaning on it and breaking it. I gave up in the end.

I forgot to mention in the original ad I'd fitted an Andy bracket, which made it noticeably phatter* in the midrange.

*yes that is a word.

That is the plan.

I have never had success with Chemical Metal, it had to be sanded off so was certainly stuck well but just couldn't put up with the leaning on it. I am expecting my repair* to produce another failure at some point and will revisit when necessary.

I see that the timing bracket gives performance and economy, I was surprised with the indicated 28mpg on the trip home with an average speed of just over exactly 70. It certainly can pick itself up and go when asked.

It is a very nice place to be and the interior is lovely so thank you for making that so nice!

My youngest daughter is currently doing her Highers and last week turned 17.

This to my mind can only mean one thing, time to buy another car.

Gumtree, ebay and Facebook were kept an eye on and the ever helpful TTT car finding service was tasked with the job also.

After a few false starts, mainly because of the price of cars on here skewing reality, I was notified by the TTT app that a possible vehicle was available not too far away from me. Messages and phone calls were undertaken and that resulted in the use of public transport. I have departed from here before to collect a Clio sourced yet again by the TTT app.

IMG_20180420_1404481.jpg

I arrived at the car and had a quick look, it is an MOT failure and with the spare black car it will hopefully cost very little to get on the road.

IMG_20180420_1531101.jpg

Needless to say a purchase took place and it was driven to the workshop.

IMG_20180420_1607311.jpg

It was running really rough so new plugs and cleaning the MAP seems to have resolved that issue but I will not know until MOT time.

The brake pedal was the worst I have ever experienced with a massive amount of pulsing through the pedal. The pedal moved at least half an inch with each pulse. This was the cause. Photo taken on the car.

IMG_20180514_151354.jpg

Now off the car having been replaced with ones from the black Clio which have done very few miles since I replaced them.

IMG_20180515_123007.jpg

The good* passenger side one!

IMG_20180515_123027.jpg

Sliders were sticking so I think that is what caused the disc to de-laminate.

I am not tackling the list of fails until I know if it will pass the emmissions, it is booked in for tomorrow morning at the garage I use so I will get an honest opinion and I can order the parts necessary and fit next week, hopefully.

I have also changed the number place bulb that failed. (whole lamp from the Black car)

I have changed all the wipers as they were all ruined. (Again the Black car supplied)

Finally the hazard light switch has also been replaced from the ever increasingly light weight Black car.

Fingers crossed it turns out to be worth the effort.

I thought that was an MOT failure on a post 2001 car?

Popped along to the garage this morning for an MOT and asked to do emissions first as that is the big unknown, it failed with a CO of 0.4 at fast idle. All other readings were good so it looks like the cat, I am going to see if the one from the Black car fits and go from there. It drove much better on the way back from the garage with little or no hesitation unlike on the way there.

Didn't carry on with the test at that point ( no point spending 40% of the cars value just yet. No charge at the garage so quite a few biscuits were delivered as a thank you.

Right off to get the cat...

After the emissions fail on the CO I took the cat off the black car and went off to the workshop.

The cat came off the green car much easier than the black one which fought me every step of the way. I put them side by side and the joint to the manifold was different. Springy bolts on the black one and just a flange on the green one. Also the green one had a flexi joint in it.

I did some chopping to both at the welded joint.

IMG_20180517_141751.jpg

Then some welding.

IMG_20180517_141734.jpg

The finished article

IMG_20180517_141726.jpg

The reason for poor performance was due to an empty cat, so no weighing that in.

IMG_20180517_141809.jpg

After this a phone call was made an hope to get it looked at tomorrow, if the emissions pass then I can get my test with the list of jobs to sort.

So back to the garage with the Clio, emissions first and an easy pass, phew.

On to the rest of the test and the car is actually in quite good shape, as I am a regular a little bit of fiddling was allowed to bring stuff into spec and I have driven away with a pass. Very happy with that.

So the universe didn't loose all balance the Jag has an exhaust leak*

This presents itself as all gasses exit the manifold and don't use the rest of the exhaust at all. It is a little* loud so that needs looked at and fixed. Not even looked yet.

Just as well I enjoy* fixing stuff.
